These are the field modications I have made both authorized and unauthorized.  The goal of any of the mods is too improve the jeep's safety or reliability.

From left to right - above. In the first picture you can see the adapter.  The next photo is of the filter installed in the jeep, looking stock. The third picture is of the assembled fitlter laying on its' side.  You're not going to do this  with  a normal oil bath filter that is ready to install.

From left to right - above. In the first picture you can see the adapter, oil bath body/bottom and dry cartridge.  The next photo is of the dry filter with the adapter and oil bath bottom, ready to install. The third picture gives you and idea of the height of the adapter.

Above. Filter (Carquest part number - 97036) purchased from Carquest, a parts store near my home.  Changing the first is now much easier!.  The adapter was manufactered by USM.   I purchased it back in the early '80s.  I have not discovered a current source for this part.
