NOVA - PART 11

A week had passed. Joey could hardly believe it had only been a week. A week filled with intense make out sessions with Pacey that inevitably always led to something more.

I have no control.

Anytime and any place they were alone together and instantly they were all over each another. She was insatiable, it was like the more she got of Pacey the more she needed. The desire had not faded but intensified. Joey found herself having sex in her room, Pacey's room, once even Jack's and then Jen's room (both would have been mortified and probably just a tad ticked off if they knew), the kitchen, the main hall, the barn, the woods...anywhere and everywhere. Of course their favourite place was the beach, it held special meaning for the two of them.

However it wasn't just the physical side of their relationship that had Joey so satisfied. It was much more that that. It was the emotionally intimacy they shared - a closeness that comforted her. Pacey knew her like no one else did. He had taken the time to get to know her, had never assumed anything and now..now Joey felt as if he knew her soul.

#####
They lay on Pacey's bed, fully clothed. She could feel the back of his hand barely touching her arm. The room was quiet but outside they could hear the bustling of people carrying out their daily business. His hand moved so that now both of their hands were clasped in a loose hold.

Sunlight streamed through the window warming their skin. All together it was a tranquil moment with the sleepiness that sun could induce adding to the atmosphere.

"Do you know what has happened?"

"What?" Pacey murmured absently engrossed instead in the sensation of stroking Joey's hand with his thumb.

"I feel happy. I feel happy and at peace. Like nothing outside can touch me. That everything I need and everything I want is here in this room."

His hand squeezed hers.

"I don't remember feeling so content in such a long time. I mean we all have those idyllic memories of childhood - being young and carefree. It is like a fable paradise - the happiness of a child. Only somehow I got lucky. Somehow I manage to recapture it. And it's all because of you."

"All I ever want to do is to make you happy. I want to be the one who makes you smile and laugh. I want to be the one who puts that twinkle in your eye and I know it sounds corny but that's all I want. And all I want to do is spend the rest of my life with you here in my arms. I want to show you just how much I love you. How much you mean to me and to take care of you the way you deserve. I don't want someone else to wipe away your tears, to be the one that you tell all your secrets and problems to. I want to protect you from pain, sadness and disappointment."

"And I want you to be the one. I do Pacey. I think...I think you're all I've ever needed. And sometimes it scares me..that I might lose you. That you might just be a dream."

"I'll never leave Potter. Not unless you ask me to and then..maybe even then I won't leave. I'm not sure if it is even possible. And I sure as hell don't know what I'd do if you ever decided you didn't want me."

"That will never happen Pacey."

"Good. But sometimes...sometimes...I get the feeling that something this good cannot last. I mean I'm Pacey Witter....I'm never this lucky. And I get scared that circumstance or events will take you away from me. Or that you'll come to your senses and realise what a fool you've been. I'm not sure if I could handle it, if it happened. But worse..worse than all of that..sometimes I'm terrified that I'll do something stupid. Something stupid and reckless and really screw up. That somehow I will ruin the best thing that has ever happened to me. But I need you to know that I love you. That I'll always love you. And no matter what happens in the future I have no intention, no inclination of ever letting you go. I want us to grow old together. And I promise you this Joey, you're not going to lose me, not any time soon that's for sure."

#####

Joey smiled. She had never felt so loved in her life and so in love. Pacey was incredible, Jen and Jack were happy, Andie was her usual bubbly self and Abby wasn't so annoying. Things were even going amazingly well with Dawson. Everything was perfect and whenever Joey looked into Pacey's eyes she could see her future. It was a happiness that should have been overwhelming maybe even a little frightening because of its strength and enormity. Yet it only served to emphasise how right things were. And despite the war that was raging between Nova and the Linkens Joey felt an immense sense of hope. A hope that was fulfilling - that nothing could go wrong, not while she and Pacey were together.

She smiled again remembering how it felt to have his lips touch hers. How it was to have him inside her - a unification between the two. How right everything felt. How they belonged.

The smile was a smile that Jen was becoming awfully suspicious of.

"You're like the cat who ate the canary. You have this secret that you're not telling me...and I can't believe you're not telling me...we always tell each other everything!!!"

"Jen, it's not like that...Everything is so amazing at the moment and I have so much emotions swirling around inside of me it would drive Jack insane...and I'm just getting used to it..trying to understand and absorb everything... And for the moment I just want to keep it to myself..it's just that I'm not quite ready to share...yet. But I will be soon and I promise you that you will be the first person I'll tell."

"Okay. But only because I'll be the first one you'll tell. Of course I know it has something to do with you and Pacey!"

"How do you know that?! It doesn't have anything to do with your seer talent does it? "

"Nope. I don't need magic for something like this. I mean, geez, Joey I'm not blind. You've been going around all week with that smile of yours and Pacey has an identical smile plastered all over his face all week as well. And the two of you have inseparable. And well....there's that and the fact that you just admitted to me that it has something to do with Pacey."

"Jen you do know that you're impossible, right?"

~*~*~*~*~*~

He had never felt more happy and complete in his life. Pacey J. Witter and Josephine Potter were in love.

And we've been expressing our love for one another every chance we get.

The only damper on Pacey's happiness was the bizarre dream he had. He had thought about telling Jack or Jen about the dream but they didn't even know that Pacey and Joey had moved their relationship to a new level. At one point Pacey had considered asking the Blue Mage about the dream, so unsettling the dream had been, but then he realised his own foolishness. After all the dream was probably just a manifestation of Pacey's fear of losing Joey. It made sense that it had occurred after they had made love because Pacey knew that after that one event he could not bear to lose Joey. It had been hard to imagine before but now Pacey knew it was impossible.

Everything else had faded into the background. Abby's advances which had fallen short before now simply rolled off Pacey as he paid less and less attention to the girl. Even Dawson no longer mattered. What Pacey shared with Joey was too special for even Dawson to penetrate despite Dawson's constant presence. Joey seemed to tolerate Dawson pretty well and had even developed a friendship of sorts with him. And Pacey only admired and loved Joey the more for it. To him it demonstrated her capacity to love and give, a compassion that moved Pacey. She was perfect and she was his.

And now there was the possibility that neither of them would ever have to be separated from one another. Several members of the Coalition were arriving this afternoon to discuss the Linkens' progressive invasion of Nova. The Isle was bustling with activity with a ball organised to greet the esteemed and prestigious guests. Yet only two guests were of concern to Pacey, his father King Witter and Joey's sister, Bessie Potter, the acting monarch of Atiivar. Pacey was planning on asking both his father and Bessie for permission to marry Joey. He realised that the marriage itself might not take place until after the war with the Linkens but Pacey was determined that the whole of Nova would know his love for Joey and her love for him. There was of course the added benefit of uniting Atiivar and Seretus but in the end that didn't matter. All that mattered was Joey.

~*~*~*~*~*~

Engrossed in his thoughts, Pacey now found himself just outside the Isle's redwood barn. He also saw that the object of his affections and his attentions had just entered the barn and Pacey proceeded to follow.

He had not seen her all day which was unusual for the two of them but Andie had recruited Joey as well as Jack and Jen to help prepare for the arrival of several members of the Coalition. Despite Pacey's love for Joey, even that was not enough to entice him to help out in one of Andie McPhee's bizarre schemes. Each time he ever lent a hand Pacey had always severely regretted it. Trouble and Andie came hand in hand, at least for Pacey Witter.

So now he moved to the barn, somewhat surprised that Joey was there but at the same time glad. The secluded barn was a perfect spot for an unplanned rendezvous. Or even a planned one for that matter. Pacey quickened his pace anticipating the soft kisses that would surely await him.

"Joey I love you."

Pacey stopped just before entering. From the partially closed door Pacey could see Dawson Leery approach his love, speaking earnestly and sincerely. He turned to leave knowing that this was a private moment between Joey and Dawson and he at least owed Dawson the respect of a private rejection.

"I love you too, Dawson."

He stopped his retreat.

That was not Joey's voice. It can't be

Pacey moved forwarded only to be greeted by the sight of his lover in a compromising and intimate embrace with one Dawson Leery. His first instinct was to rush through the door, pull Dawson off Joey and beat the crap out of Dawson.

And then it happened.

Dawson knelt down a sparkling diamond ring cradled in his hand.

"Marry me Joey."

Pacey had stopped breathing. He watched in fascinated horror as Joey smiled her gorgeous full smile and threw her arms around Dawson. Arms that had only the night before been around his body as she had urged him deeper and deeper into her. He felt his nightmare come true. Everything was falling apart.

"Of course Dawson."

Pain wracked through Pacey's body. It had to be a dream, it had..but Pacey knew that it was not. He glanced as Dawson swirled the glowing Joey around and around and around. He turned and left. There was nothing left to see. Nothing left to hear Nothing left for Pacey.

~*~*~*~*~*~

Dawson fell to the ground exhausted. Droplets of sweated beaded down his forehead from physical and mental exertion. He couldn't believe he had done it. More than that he could not believe how well it had turned out for him. Never in his wildest dreams had Dawson ever truly anticipated that he would be here, in this position. Everything had been perfect. Her voice. Her acceptance. The diamond ring. In truth Dawson was in shock and so tired.

The illusion had taken much out of him. He had learnt to perfect images but sounds were that much harder. Yet somehow he had managed to coordinate both the images and sounds into a masterful illusion that could be easily be taken for as reality. The details had been vital, getting the exact colour of her hair, the tone of her voice, the angle her mouth reflected when she smiled. Of course it had been a good excuse to study Josephine Potter. And now he had created his reality - a scene in which Dawson had declared his love to the Princess and she reciprocated his feelings. A reality where Josephine Potter promised to be Dawson Leery's wife.

Unfortunately it was only an illusion. But maybe, maybe one day...

"Very good Dawson."

Dawson beamed. Blue Mage Omyn rarely gave out praise, especially one that was so abundantly approving.

"You've really come along and I imagine that you'll rival even our master illusionist."

"Thank you sir."

"I do however have one suggestion."

"Yes sir?"

"Perhaps you should try a few different illusions. Maybe some that do not feature Princess Josephine Potter."

"Oh. Yes. Right!"

"But other than that very good, very good indeed."

~*~*~*~*~*~

Joey had not seen Pacey all day and now it would seem like the Fates would have it all night too. She had been so busy as Andie had bossed the group sans Pacey and Abby telling them exactly where each floral decoration had to go, how the ribbons had to look and the proper position for anything else Andie could possibly think of. Pacey had been right, it would have been much better to have spent the day not participating in Andie's little scheme. In fact the day would have been much better spent in the arms of the now elusive Pacey. They could have spent the day slowly making love and perhaps..just perhaps discussing what they would have told Bessie and Pacey's father when they got here. Instead she had to remain silent when Bessie had come unwilling to say anything without Pacey at her side. Joey did note that Bessie looked tired, more tired than usual. The war was having an affect and Joey had felt a pang of guilt at her own happy carefree existence.

Still Joey knew that Bessie would not begrudge Joey her happiness. Especially since she had now found love. All Joey wanted to do was introduce Pacey to Bessie and then spend the rest of the night in his embrace. However Pacey was not to be seen and Joey could not find him. There were so many people, too many and while she tried in vain to locate Pacey she was still having little success. Instead she was stuck here with Jen, Jack, Dawson and Andie. Normally she wouldn't mind their company but she was suffering from Pacey deprivation.

"Lighten up Jo. I'm sure he'll turn up soon. Here taste this wine. It's specially made for us young adults. Some bull sh#t about regulating our amount of alcohol intake! But hey, I figure if we drink enough of this stuff it won't matter!!!"

Joey took the goblet Jen offered and mindlessly downed the contents, still searching for Pacey.

Where is he?

She downed another goblet full of wine, not really noticing her actions, so intent was Joey on finding Pacey.

~*~*~*~*~*~

"So do you feel like dancing?"

Pacey stared at Abby dressed in a tight black gown that revealed everything.

"No. Not really."

"Oh come on Pacey, don't be such a party pooper." Abby circled Pacey as if he was a tasty morsel. Her fingers played with the nape of Pacey's neck, gently fingering his hair. "We can't have the Prince down during this marvellous ball. That is..unless...he's going down on me."

"Look Abby, I'm not interested." Pacey said attempting to extract himself from her grasp.

Instead Abby pushed him to wall her body on top of his, her pelvis rubbing Pacey suggestively, "Oh but I think you're very interested."

Something overcame Pacey. Perhaps it was the hurt at Joey's betrayal, perhaps it was Abby's persistence, perhaps it was something else but he found himself responding.

They kissed hard. There was no love, no sweetness. Only a strange, unfulfilling lust.

~*~*~*~*~*~

"I don't feel well."

"Neither do I."

"I think horrendous is a good word."

"Uhh...excuse me guys...I think I'm going to be..uh...sick..."

"Just let me die here..."

Jack's room was filled with five bodies - namely Jack, Andie, Jen, Joey and Dawson. Each of them collapsed on the floor dying from an unknown ailment.

"I think the word is alcohol poisoning Jen." Joey remarked dryly before closing her eyes and willed the room to stop spinning.

"Remind me tomorrow, never to drink ever again."

"Got that sis but only if you return the favour."

All five moaned again wishing the pain would stop.

*~*~*~*

Pacey cried out in brief pain as Abby's nails scraped his back. She screamed one last time before shuddering and falling on top of Pacey, an exhausted but sated woman.

He pulled Abby's hair kissing her hard before releasing her. Abby's finger's lightly scratched Pacey's arm, marvelling at the well toned muscles.

Pacey stared at the woman before him, still feeling odd before closing his eyes and falling into a dreamless sleep.

~*~*~*~*~*~

Jen woke up startled. She had the strangest dream. A dream about Pacey and Joey and Gilk. It was odd. She couldn't make sense of it. She had seen Pacey looking out at the vast blue sea with Gilk by his side but where was Joey? Then the image had shimmered and changed so that Joey was looking at the same beach Only it wasn't really Joey who stood there. More like a spirit, insubstantial.

Jen's head pounded. She was still feeling too hungover and just a little ill to make any sense of her dream. In fact Jen was suffering from the worse case of too much partying that she had ever experienced in her life. She wondered what had been in the wine. Her stomach churned and Jen knew that she needed to get to the toilets quick. The dream was quickly forgotten and dismissed by Jen, besides Jen had a suspicion it might have been an alcoholic induced dream. Nothing that actually mattered.

~*~*~*~*~*~

Joey was in search for Pacey. She hadn't met him last night on the beach as usual because of last night's festivities.

I spent the majority of the morning in front of a toilet bowel. And this pleasurable experience I have Jen to thank for.

It was now midmorning and Pacey had not made an appearance. So now Joey was at the door of his chambers hoping that he was not mad at her for unintentionally standing him up last night.

I hope that he's just sleeping in. That or he's suffering from too much alcohol like the rest of us.

She paused at the door wondering if she should just barge in and then decided she was being ridiculous.

After all there's nothing in Pacey's room that I haven't seen before.

Josephine Potter never realised how wrong she was.

~*~*~*~*~*~

Pacey's door creaked open and Joey discovered her suspicions were confirmed. If the lump in his bed was any indication Pacey Witter had not got out of bed. She moved forward ready to wake him.

The sheets moved revealing a very naked Pacey. Joey blushed despite herself. The flush of red turned from that of girlish modesty to anger. A naked Abby Morgan had rolled on top of Pacey and it was then that Joey smelt the distinct aroma of sex. From the marks on each of their bodies it appeared they had both had a very fulfilling and rough night.

Joey stumbled backwards hitting Pacey's bedside drawer and causing the contents on top to fall down. The noise woke the occupants in the bed.

"Joey!"

"Pacey." Joey mimicked, only her voice was filled with bitterness.

"What are you doing here?"

"I came to wake you up. But obviously you need your sleep because you've had a very busy night. I mean I should go since I am sooo obviously an unexpected visitor."

"Unexpected...that's to put it mildly. Where's Dawson?"

"What has this got to do with Dawson?"

"Only that you're going to marry him. That and you probably spent the night together."

"One, Dawson and I are NOT getting married. Yes, maybe once that was Bessie's intention but it was never mine. And yes I did spend the night with Dawson. And with Jack. And Jen. And Andie. We all got drunk and crashed in Jack's room. You, obviously spent the night with Abby. And here I was feeling guilty, guilty that I had been feeling too sick to meet you on the beach. Well congratulations Pacey, you obviously got your dues last night."

"Wait, you're not marrying Dawson?"

"No! I'm not! I'm not even sure where you got such a crazy idea from!! I never was planning on marrying Dawson and I never will be!"

"But I heard you..saw you...yesterday afternoon..."

"I don't know what you saw but it wasn't me. I didn't set eyes on you all day, yesterday. You can ask Jen, Andie or Jack I spent the whole day and the whole night with them. Remember??"

"But..."

"You're pathetic! I can't believe you tried to excuse this whole whatever you have going with Abby by creating a fictitious affair between Dawson and I! I'm just wondering how long this has actually been going on? Did you spend all of yesterday with Abby?? And to think I let myself fall for your lies!"

Abby smiled a smug, victorious smile and got up from the bed deliberately parading her nakedness to Joey. She stretched, slow, deliberate and feline.

"Maybe I should go..." Abby purred.

"No that's all right," Joey snapped in reply, "I'll leave." With one last glance she glared at the dumbfounded Pacey on the bed before moving to exit the room.

"Joey! Wait!" But Pacey was too late and Joey was gone.

"There was nothing going on..." Pacey whispered, he knew almost instinctively the truth of Joey's words and the realisation which should have been one of relief and joy was instead killing him, "There was nothing between Joey and Dawson."

"She was rather touchy wasn't she? But last night was fan..tas...tic..."

"Leave Abby." Pacey replied quietly.

"We could relive last night if you want. You were soooooo good and soo wild..."

"I said LEAVE!" his voiced boomed through the room, echoing as Pacey yelled. His voice dropped again, this time his tone was one of despair and resignation, "Just leave."

~*~*~*~*~*~

She ran and ran. Destination unknown. She just knew she had to run. So run she did. Images blurred faces, places all became one hazy entity - nothing registered anymore - no noises, sounds, people or objects. And still she continued to run.

~*~*~*~*~*~

"Jack!" Jen cried out kneeling down to attend to her companion, "Are you all right?"

"Pain...." Jack managed to whisper from his collapsed position on the floor.

"You're hurt?"

"It's too much. It's overwhelming." Jack's voice was weak and he cradled his body as if nursing a physical wound that was actually present.

"What is? I don't understand?"

"Joey...pain..."

Something in Jack's voice managed to penetrate through Jen's deep concern and realisation dawned.

"Empathy."

Jack's head nodded weakly. He could feel Joey's pain, intense overwhelming. It overcame him, washing over him to the extent that Jack felt physically ill. It was unusual, Joey hated to broadcast her emotions but they were there, relentless.

"What happened exactly Jack?"

"I'm not..I'm not too sure. But we have to find her."

Jack made a move to get up but found himself crumpled on the floor again. The pain was too great. And Jack's shields were already blocking a substantial percentage of Joey's emotions. He didn't even want to think of the magnitude of Joey's pain. He cringed again as the onslaught continued.

Jen stared at Jack in worry. He was physically unable to move. She could not leave Jack like this and at the same time she was torn with concern for Joey. Jen watched anxiously at Jack, his body obviously wracked with pain. And Jen's fears and concerns increased tenfold.

~*~*~*~*~*~

Joey felt a wetness on her face. Why was her face wet?

Tears. They're only tears.

She didn't even realise that she had been crying.

Where am I?

Joey looked up from her huddled position and realised that she had somehow managed to find her way into the main hall and was now hidden in one of the corners. Velvet curtains rustled before her as air blew gently from a window that was slightly ajar. It was just Joey, removed from the rest of the world with the curtains serving as a barrier between the small figure and the outside world. She closed her eyes, pulled her knees to her chest and tried to stop trembling.

Abby and Pacey were there. They wouldn't leave her alone. And Joey had ran and ran until she could run no more. She was too exhausted now but still Abby and Pacey chased after her. She couldn't escape them, they were there, always, sprawled naked on Pacey's bed unwilling to be banished from Joey's mind. And the pain wouldn't go either. It seemed only to intensify - so that Joey hurt, not just emotionally and mentally but also physically. Her body ached but it wasn't simply from Joey's physical exertion but was due to something much more. Joey ached and she ached all over. She could feel the bile moving up her throat towards her mouth leaving a bitter aftertaste.

~*~*~*~*~

"Is anyone here?"

"No, the hall is empty."

"Good, so now we can talk."

Joey opened her eyes and sighed. She wasn't sure how long she had been there and she didn't care. Time was irrelevant. Time could not heal this pain. All Joey wanted was to be alone. Only now there were voices intruding. Joey concentrated on the movement of the velvet curtains, it was the only thing she knew to do as she willed the voices to disappear. Instead they ignored her and continued.

"The Linkens will be here soon and then what will you tell the Coalition?" An unfamiliar but overtly agitated voice spoke.

"Nothing. Somehow everything will work out." It was Blue Mage Omyn's voice.

"But the Linkens are demanding and this bargain....it is our only way out!"

"I know that."

"So we need someone....someone of power and position..someone willing to spend the rest of eternity with the Linkens! Yet there is no other way to placate the Linkens. They will destroy everything unless this single demand is met!! Everything weve ever worked for hinges on this...if we fail now..... But by gods...their request is impossible!!! We will never find anyone who would be willing to sacrifice....and it can't be just anyone....otherwise we could send some village hap...but no!!!....it must be someone of nobility, royalty preferably....someone with magical talent..."

"Someone like me." Joey's cool voice interrupted.

The two men turned and stared.

Blue Mage Omyn saw before him a girl, tall stately and determined. "You do realise what you are proposing?"

"Yes."

"What you will be sacrificing?"

"Yes."

"Fine. Hawkins, take Joey to the meeting place..."

*Joey no!*

Gilk bounded into the room.

*It is already done, Gilk. Goodbye.*

*No! Joey no!*

But his cries were blocked out as Joey exited the room.

In the main hall only Blue Mage Omyn and Gilk remained.

~*~*~*~*~*~

In the hall a man and a wolf faced one another. Old friends.

*What have you done, Omyn?*

*Nothing she didn't offer.*

*What have you done??!??* The wolf roared in Blue Mage Omyn's mind.

This time the Blue Mage refused to answer.

Gilk stood, a wolf on the hunt eyeing its prey.

And then the Blue Mage felt it, an ancient touch but still as strong. It probed and demanded, taking answers. Images exchanged from one mind to the other. Knowledge was power and Gilk was strengthened.

*You didn't. Tell me you didn't!*

*I had to. It was for the prophecy...*

The wolf arched then lunged, pouncing onto the man, teeth snapping. The man fell to the ground, blood pooling from his arm, he somehow managed to pry himself away from the wolf.

*You set it up. You set the whole goddamn thing up!!!*

*It was destiny, my friend...Fate.*

*It was not destiny. It was not destiny that Pacey saw Dawson's illusion. It was not destiny that Joey and the others fell sick from the wine you provided. And it was not destiny that Pacey slept with Abby.*

The wolf moved, surveying the man in disgust.

*That was why you kept Abby's talent a secret. Seduction and loss of will. Only Pacey was too strong. She couldn't get him - not while Joey and Pacey were together - no matter how strong her powers. So you set it up. It was only with the pain...when Pacey was feeling confused and lost, weakened, that Abby and you could pounce.*

*It was for the greater good my friend.*

*No such thing...but I don't have time for this, I have to stop what you have started.*

Gilk made a move to leave but changed his mind and turned to the still triumphant but now greatly shaken mage.

*You and I, we are not friends Omyn. And this is NOT over.*

~*~*~*~*~*~

He found Pacey easily. And then Gilk did something that he had not done in a long time, he entered the Prince's mind and spoke.

*We have to go now!*

"How..how did you do that?"

*We have to go now, Pacey! Before Joey does something stupid.*

Then images bombarded Pacey, scene after scene Gilk fired into his mind until Pacey reeled from knowledge and realisation.

"Oh my god...we have to go now!"

Two figures raced off, desperately trying to break the catastrophic chain of events.

~*~*~*~*~*~

Jen exited the room. Jack was now resting. Healers had managed to induce Jack to sleep and relieve the pain, and now Jen's thoughts were solely concentrated on finding Joey. She entered the courtyard only to see Pacey and Gilk race by.

Images flashed through her head. Joey. Pacey. A dazzling, blinding white light. She stumbled as the vision came over her. Then realisation came to Jen. The dream she had had this morning was significant. It had meaning. It was not simply a bizarre, alcoholic induced dream. Dread overwhelmed Jen and she wondered if she was too late. If they were all too late.

~*~*~*~*~*~

Hawkins had left her. So here she was alone on the beach again, waiting. Only this time Joey wasn't waiting for Pacey. This time she waiting for the arrival of the mythical and feared Linkens.

She knew she was making a choice - a choice that would change her life forever. In essence she was signing her life away. Only it didn't matter.

Because there's no such thing as true love. At least now I'm serving my country, my people...Nova.

Distantly she could hear the faint sounds of Gilk calling her, begging her to wait, asking her to listen. But Joey had stopped hearing a long time ago.

Before her stood a white ethereal creature - pale and beautiful, almost untouchable.

"You came.." The voice was not the voice of one but many, all who whispered at Joey, caressing her, welcoming her.

Joey could feel their collective joy.

"There's nothing to fear. We won't hurt you. We want you. You are one of us. Come."

She took a step forward still uncertain.

"Come...here there is no pain. There is only us."

Joey felt her pain ebb away as she moved closer to the Linken. She turned and faced the world she was departing before a bright light enveloped her.

~*~*~*~*~*~

"Joey! Stop!"

*Wait Joey! Listen...there are things you have to know!*

Both Pacey and Gilk cried out but their voices met no response, no acknowledgment that they were being heard. They could see from the distance a creature approaching Joey and talking to her. Then Joey took a step forward. If possible, they increased their speed getting closer and closer by the second.

Pacey ran, this was a race he could not afford to lose. He saw her move closer to the creature and cried her name again but she didn't seem to hear him. She was just five steps away from him when she turned.

Pacey gasped. She was like the Joey of his dream. Ethereal, almost like she was no longer physically there. Then a bright light, white and pure, appeared temporarily blinding him.

When Pacey opened his eyes there was only sand, water and empty air.
