The Fast And The Furious is basically Point Break with cars. Although these are very nice cars that have been fitted with top-notch engines and nitrous oxide. Director Rob Cohen does a really good job in showing us how fast these machines go, with a surprising amount of fancy camera tricks. In the first race we are thrown into the action straight away as the camera travels through the engine and flies out the fiery exhaust. The story is about a team of criminals hijacking trucks, and it's up to undercover cop Brian (Walker) to infiltrate the world of street racing and solve the case. The main suspects are Dominic Toretto (Diesel) and his gang. The rest is very predictable, but this isn't a film that worries about the plot. The story is just given enough attention so that the film never drags and doesn't bore the audience. What the film is really about is adrenalin, whether that be superbly executed hijacking set pieces, racing down streets to the sound of a hard rock soundtrack or chasing rival gangs with suitable gun action. The director should be applauded as he has used all of his $38m dollars and made it look at least twice that amount.
