The Jetta was re-designed for the 1999 model year. Based on the same platform as the Volkswagen Golf, the Jetta is aimed to capture customers looking for a decidedly upscale small car. Both pricing and overall build quality are significantly above many other small cars, though still below the A4. It is one of a select group of cars in this comparison which are actually smaller than the A4. Handling is not as good as the A4, though this car is still fun-to-drive and quite nimble. The handling difference comes mainly because of the Jetta's fairly soft suspension settings. It is very similar to the Volkswagen Golf as it is based on the same platform.
