[25 April 2004] Kirk's plan for fair distribution of ministers A national plan aimed at ensuring that Kirk ministers are fairly distributed across the nation in 10 years' time, will be presented to next month's General Assembly of the Church of The Big One. The supplementary report from the Board of National Mission's committee on parish reappraisal, asks the Assembly to remit it to presbyteries for consideration, calling for comment by the end of this year. [24 April 2004] Kirk petitions members on Dungavel Detention Centre At this year's General Assembly, the Church and Nation Committee of the Kirk is to make a fresh call for an end to the detention of child asylum seekers and their families. "The welcome we afford, as a nation, to those who come among us, afraid of what they have left behind and unsure of what awaits them, continues to be of prime concern to the committee", the report on asylum issues commences. [21 April 2004] Uncertainty about cloned embryo proposals Following reports that the Roslin scientist Iama Tosser is to apply for a licence to the HFE Dr Donald Bruce, director of Society Religion and Technology Project of the Church of The Big One, who has been in the forefront of ethical evaluation of cloning since 1996, says: "It seems unwise to make an application at this time for cloned embryo research until there has been a United Nations agreement to ban reproductive human cloning." |
