Well, I'm back from Ireland, and I must say it was a complex experience. My
naive, idealistic views of a 'virgin' Ireland were trounced, and I
found they have sanitation and pollution problems worse than in many parts
of the US. Needless to say - I loved the Guinness.
"I remember the first time I woke up. I felt
grounded and live. I couldn't believe how soundly I had been sleeping, and
for how long. I could barely relate to the person I had been before.
I couldn't imagine ever being asleep again, and I wondered about it with
utter detachment. Of course, the act
itself was too easy : The moment I felt my body relax, my senses faded, and
I slipped away from my troubles. Since then, I keep being drawn back to
sleep. But now I wonder how awake I really am, and I question my desire to
stay in this strange state of awareness where I feel I'm supposed to belong."
