HLS Campaign

Sunlight Demo Report

Friday, 26th September 2003 saw a contingent of members of the Norfolk Animal Rights Coalition stage a very successful protest against HLS customer, Sunlight Laundry.

Their premises on Oak Street, Norwich were visited between 1.30pm and 3.30pm to draw the public’s attention to the fact that this national company continues to wash the overalls of HLS’s vivisectionists, despite having made a pledge to SHAC that they would cease serving the Cambridgeshire based animal testing laboratory.

Whilst protesters demo’d the premises, successfully preventing the firm’s lorries from entering or leaving the site, others were busy registering their anger at the company’s continued collaboration with HLS, by telephoning, faxing and e-mailing all afternoon.

One of the lorry drivers was so anxious to avoid the protest, he reversed into a police car!

All the local media were contacted just prior to the demo which resulted in Anglia TV and Radio Norfolk sending crews to cover the story.

However, although the event did not feature on the evening’s ‘About Anglia’ TV news programme, Radio Norfolk did us proud by adding the story to their hourly news bulletins throughout the afternoon and evening.
