Demo report . . .
The SPEAC rally on Saturday,11th October, held in Cambridge, against the proposed new research Primate Lab at Cambridge University, Girton, saw almost 2,000 people march against this obscenity.
The rally was dignified, noisy, and very up-beat, and for such a new campaign in its infancy, this day was awesome. Sending a powerful and angry message out to one and all, that this Lab will be fought against every inch of the way.
Speakers included, Andrew Tyler from Animal Aid, Sue from CAPE (Cambridge Against Primate Experiments), Mel and Dawn (SPEAC).
A Channel 4 TV crew were there, plus local TV. There was an interview on Channel 4 News that evening, with Dr. Ray Greek, (well known anti-vivisectionist) who did a satellite link up from the States and Mark Matfield, promoter of animal research for the Research Defence Association.
Dr. Ray Greek refuted all of the lies put forward by Mark Matfield, which was an excellent ending to an extremely successful rally, and the first of many, leaving no one in any doubt, that this proposed Primate Lab is not an option.
