Save the Newchurch Guinea Pigs National: Loud and Proud!
Burton Town Centre - Saturday 7 July 2001
About 300 protestors met at the war memorial at noon to show their disgust for the continuing abuse of the guinea pigs up at Newchurch and in the laboratories David Hall and Partners so wickedly supply to. Thanks to the help from the Covance Campaign, everybody had expertly designed props, banners, costumes or placards. After a quick scoff, courtesy of the most excellent Veggies, one of the SNGP protestors rallied us all into the spirit of the day. Led by the notorious giant guinea pig, we soon wound our colourful, noisy way around and through the town centre, blocking all the roads!
At the junction to the shopping area, we stopped for two heartfelt and angry speeches by a campaigner for ‘Seriously Ill Against Vivisection’ and by another SNGP protestor. It was a wonderful opportunity to reflect upon how intrinsically evil animal abuse is, especially when it is perpetrated by such villains as David Hall and Partners upon such innocent creatures. It was also a chance to be reminded that the suppliers of the Halls like RS Biotech, Isotron and Microbiological Laboratories are as guilty as the Halls are for profiting from this violence against animals.
The Burton Mail had previously announced that there were to be ‘clashes’ at this point in the demonstration. How wrong they were –as is typical! We then continued to march our loud and proud way around town again before regrouping at the war memorial. There was another opportunity for a chill out before the protestors headed up to Darley Oaks to continue this spectacular visual display of compassion. The Section 14 was already in place but it did not - and should never - deter people from carrying out their freedom to demonstrate wherever they choose. The demonstrations also continued at Safepharm Laboratories, another sick abuser of guinea pigs, another sick customer of David Hall and Partners.
This was another incredible gathering by the animal rights community to expose the myths of vivisection and the plight of the guinea pigs born to die at Newchurch. Thanks again to everyone for their help and support. Let’s all make it our personal goal to expose the evil of the Halls every day and night.
SAVE THE NEWCHURCH GUINEA PIGS!
Post script:
On Friday the 6th of July Jason Davies of the Burton Mail insisted that the rally was "designed to clash with the Streets Alive arts festival" in the town on Saturday! What utter nonsense! How deliberately antagonistic of him to suggest such stereotypical rubbish about a demonstration that had the full co-operation of the police and in no way, shape or form intended to ‘clash’ with any member of the public or the Arts Festival. Could it be possible that they ran the ‘TOWN ON DEMO ALERT’ front-page headline on Friday to sell more copies of their paper?! No doubt to their dismay, the day passed without any arrests.
