* Foxley Wood deer cull . . . Good News !!
Thanks to very quick action by our group and NABS (Norwich Anti Blood Sports), the culling of deer at Foxley Wood by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust has been suspended. Action on the site, good press coverage and picketing the Trust office in Norwich was extremely effective in stopping this slaughter before it got out of control. Also, the exposure of a former master of the West Norfolk Foxhounds as one of the killers clearly demonstrated the outrageous hypocrisy of this organisation. The situation has been monitored on a regular basis and there has been no further activity to report. Many thanks to everyone who supported this campaign either actively or by expressing their views to Norfolk Wildlife Trust. Perhaps they should consider a change of name and they should certainly think about the sort of company they keep!
Please read our press release issued jointly with Norwich Anti Blood Sports faxed to the local Newspaper, Radio, and TV stations on Thursday 15th May, for background information on this campaign.
* More good news . . . CPS Fuels of Forncett St Peter, Norfolk have severed their links with HLS.
This local company had been supplying HLS with fuel oils for some considerable time but has now agreed to stop supplying HLS with fuel oils with effect from 30 May 2003. This decision was reached following heavy pressure from the SHAC campaign over the past couple of months. SHAC wishes to thank all local supporters for their help in bringing about this action.

* Theobromine - Lethal to dogs and cats . . .
Cocoa Mulch, which is sold by Sainsbury's Homebase, Home Depot, Foreman's Garden Supply and other Garden supply stores, contains a lethal ingredient called "Theobromine". It is lethal to dogs and cats. It smells like chocolate and it really attracts dogs. They will ingest this stuff and die.
Several deaths already occurred in the last 2-3 weeks. Just a word of caution -- check what you are using in your gardens and be aware of what your gardeners are using in your gardens.
Theobromine is the ingredient that is used to make all chocolate -- especially dark or baker's chocolate -- which is toxic to dogs. Cacao bean shells contain potentially toxic quantities of theobromine, a xanthine compound similar in effects to caffeine and theophylline. A dog that ingested a lethal quantity of garden mulch made from cacao bean shells developed severe convulsions and died 17 hours later. Analysis of the stomach contents and the ingested cacao bean shells revealed the presence of lethal amounts of theobromine.
