UIST HEDGEHOGS LETTERS NEEDED

Date: Fri, 22 Nov 2002

The hedgehogs on Uist need ALL the help they can get right now. SNH are having a meeting on 17th December to make the final decision regarding the future of these 'hogs.

S.N.H. want to cull ALL the hedgehogs on the Isles and make no mistake, if they decide to kill them, it won't matter if it's male, youngster or pregnant female. They have already stated that this is what would be done.

We are fighting hard to be allowed to do a relocation of these animals back to the mainland. We need all the help we can get. What we ask is that you write to SNH and SSPCA showing that you support a relocation rather than a cull.

According to SNH it would be far kinder to kill all the animals to prevent them suffering any stress at being relocated back to the mainland where they belong.

Tests on Uist 'hogs have shown that there is no reason that they cannot be relocated, as they have the same parasites etc. as the mainland 'hogs.

Your letters MUST be in before the 17th December 2002.

The following addresses are who you need to write to:

John Markland, CBE, Chairman,

Scottish Natural Heritage, 12 Hope Terrace, Edinburgh, EH9 2AS

and

Superintendent Mike Flynn, Operation Support,

S.S.P.C.A.

Braehead Mains, 603 Queensferry Road, Edinburgh, EH4 6EA

Please help to save these hedgehogs!
