HALFORDS IS USING CHIMPANZEES IN TV COMMERCIAL . . .

Below is a letter sent by CETACEA DEFENCE UK to Halfords.

Dear Mr Evans

I am saddened to learn that you are using chimpanzees in  a Halford's commercial.

I haven't personally seen the ad. and have no desire to. I do remember the old PG tips ad from the 70's or 80's, even back then it wasn't funny to see highly specialised primates anthropomorphised into human clothes and roles.

Decades on in these more enlightened times, well, we are enlightened to the destruction caused to the natural habitat of the chimpanzee, to the pitiful exhibits that linger on insane, in antiquidated zoos such as Southport zoo. BUT not it seems to dressing chimps up in human clothes.

By associating Halford's with such an unenlightened portrayal of the true nature of chimpanzees, you are harming your business Mr. Evans.

Cetacea Defence has a track record of being involved in campaigns which successfully closed down UK dolphin shows and one in Belgium. Our membership would be distressed to learn of Halford's blatant exploitation of chimpanzees.

I look forward therefore to any assurance you can give that you will take this ad.off the tv.

Yours truly,

Alan Cooper
