Children: No children, but I have four wonderful nephews, Adam (19), Alex (16), Ben (14), and Byron (12) who are my brother David's children. They live in Annapolis. Grandchildren: Pets:
Occupation: Professor in Social Justice Education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. I've worked or been a graduate student at UMass since 1970. I've been a swim coach, a swimming instructor, a physical education teacher educator, and now I am a professor in the School of Education. I plan to retire in the next five years.
Interests and Hobbies: I've maintained my interest in sports. Over the years I've completed one marathon (the Marine Corps Marathon in DC) and several triathlons. I won a gold medal in the hammer throw at the Gay Games in Amsterdam in 1998. I play tennis and racketball (when I don't have tendonitis somewhere), and am currently totally addicted to golf. Kathy and I also enjoy kayaking and snow shoeing in the appropriate seasons. I love to read, especially mysteries.
Other: I graduated from the University of Maryland in 1967 and majored in Physical Education. I taught PE and coached several girls' sports at Wheaton High School before I moved up here. I am a 12 year ovarian cancer survivor and thankful for every year and for the friends and family who supported me through that experience. I was very lucky because it was detected early. My mother still lives in Silver Spring and I am down there to visit her two or three times a year. My father died in 1976. Thank you, Donna and Ralph for making it possible to reconnect with old Northwood friends. Was it really 39 years ago that we walked across that platform on the football field to get our diplomas?
