C&NW/CMStP&O 16-3-1 "Northern" Series Pullman Sleepers

In 1948, 12 new streamlined lightweight sleeping cars were built by Pullman-Standard for the Chicago and North Western and Omaha railroads. The cars contained 16 duplex roomettes, 3 double bedrooms, and 1 compartment. The sleepers primarily were used on overnight trains between Chicago, the Twin Cities, northern Wisconsin, and upper Michigan, which were serviced by the North Western Limited, Duluth-Superior Limited, Chicago Limited, Ashland Limited, North Woods Fisherman, and Wisconsin Lakes Special. During peak travel periods, these sleepers could be found in joint C&NW/Union Pacific service on the transcontinental "Cities" trains until 1956. All 12 cars were sold to NdeM (Mexico) in 1964.
