ABC Family Television was in Key West this weekend shooting a prime time special featuring young pop star and Marathon resident Aaron Carter. WIN YOUR WISH, hosted by Beyonce Knowles, will feature Carter spending the day in Key West with eight year-old Melanie Miguel of Miami. The duo spent the day cruising the island in a white stretch limo, bowling at the navy base and having lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe. As a reward for her straight A report card melanie, a third grader at Joella C. Good Elementary School, was allowed to go shopping for an outfit from the Limited Too clothing store at Pembrook Mall. According to Melanie's mom, Nidia Miguel, Melanie asked to fill out a "Win Your Wish" contest form she saw at the register. "Please hurry, I'm tired, it's lated and besides," Nidia told Melanie, "no one ever wins those contests anyway." Happily, Mrs. Miguel was wrong. Melanie won the national contest and got her wish to spend the day with Aaron Carter. "I had a great experience with Aaron going bowling and having lunch at the Hard Rock with him," said Melanie, "But the most special moment had to be the hug and kiss he gave me." The program will air on ABC Family Television March 14, 2003. The national media coverage continued the next day when Disney Radio spent the afternoon with Carter and a couple more lucky winners from a national radio contest that they sponsored. Carter and the winners enjoyed a trolley ride down Duval, lunch at the Hard Rock and a tour of the Key West Aquarium.
