Club History On 17,May,2002 our club will be 54 years in the making, the following is a copy of the minutes of the very first meeting of "THE NORTHERN GUNDOG SOCIETY"
-The formation of the gundog society- At a meeting of fanciers of which Mr PJ Sheppard acted as chairmam & @ J Breeze as secretary & attended by Mr & Mrs C McPherson, Miss & Mrs Rees,WG & Mrs Hoole Mrs WG Hill,Mr & Mrs Mckensey, Mr & Mrs McColl, Mr & Mrs McGregor, Mrs Stokoe, Mrs & Miss Cambridge, Mrs Kennedy, Mr & Mrs AJ Breeze, Mrs Potts, Messrs D Caldwell, A Rowlands, Mr & Mrs W e Wood, Mr P J Sheppard,Mrs Walters,Mrs LC Pender, Mrs Vaughn,Mrs McCauley, Mrs Lord,Mrs Offen held in the City Hall , Newcastle. On Friday May 7th 1948 it was decided on a motion by Mrs Walters & seconded by Mrs Cambridge that a club of gundog owners & fanciers be formed to serve the Newcastle & northern district.This was carried unanimously. Club Name __ Mr Lord moved & Mrs Walters seconded that the name of the club shall be "The Northern Gundog Society" __motion carried. Affiliation __ Mrs Cambridge moved & Mrs Hoole seconded that an application for affiliation be forwarded to the RAS Kennel Club __motion carried. A resolution that an election of officers be now proceeded with was moved by Mrs Caldwell & seconded by Mrs McCauley __ motion carried. Election of Officers __ The election of officers was now proceeded with & resulted as follows: Patron Dr Idris Morgan, President Mr P J Sheppard,Vice Presidents Mr W G Hoole, Mr R J McGregor,Mrs W G Hill, Mr C Hunter Howard,Mrs LC Pender. Hon Secretary Mrs AJ Breeze, Hon Treasurer Mrs TC McColl, Assistant Sec Mrs AJ Breeze, Publicity Officer Mr WG Hoole, Hon Auditors MrssessMc Gregor& McGregor, HonSolicitors Mrsers Braye Craig & Cohen, Hon Vet Sergeon Mrs K Sanders & Mr McTaggart(Maitland). Membership fees _Moved Mr Hoole , seconded by Mrs McColl that the membership fee be single10/6 & Dual 15/- __ Carried. Rules __ Mrs Lord Moved & Mrs Pender seconded that it be left to a sub committee of the executive officers together with Mrs Hoole to draw up a set of draft rules & present them to the next general meeting.__ motion Carried. Headquarters__Mr McKensey moved & Mrs McKensy seconded that the headquarters of the club shall be the City Hall , Newcastle.__motion carried. Meeting Night __Mr McKensey moved & Mrs Cambridge seconded that the meeting night of the club shall be the first Wednesday of each month __ motin carried. Ladies Aux__ The formation of a ladies auxilary was left to mrsMcColl & Mrs Breeze on a motion moved by Mr Caldwell seconded by Mr Hoole and carried. Stationery__That the secretary be empowered to purchase sufficient books & stationery to ensure the efficient working of the club was moved by Mrs Hoole seconded Mrs Woods & carried. Clubs Financial year__That the clubs activities commence on the first of May in each year was the subject of resolution moved by Mrs Hill seconded Mrs Hoole & carried. Number of Shows__ Mrs Hill moved & Mr MCkensey seconded that this club conduct one show only each year __motion carried. Show date__ Mr Hoole moved & Mrs Hill seconded that the clubs 1948 show be held on saturday 23rd of October __ motion carried. Sweepstakes__Mr McKensey moved & Mrs Hoole seconded that the sweepstakes as suggested by the secretary be left until the next meeting for further consideration--motion carried. Show Entry Fees__ Mrs Hill moved & Mrs Hoole seconded that the entry fees for the forthcoming show be members2/6 & non members3/- __ Motion carried. Show Judges__Mr Pender moved & Mr Walters seconded that the secretary be instructed to assertain if any interstate judges would be in NSW & available for the show. __motion carried. As the hour was getting late & the members were desirous of hearing Mr L L De Groen the Hon Treasurer of the Gundog Society of Australia address them Mrs McKensey moved & Mrs McPherson seconded that any ferther discussion of club bsiness be relegated to the next meeting_ motionn carried. At the invitation of the president Mr L L De Groen then Addressed the meeting & in doing so expressed a hope & predicted a very bright future for the club, he also tendered an apology from Mr J E Hackshall, Leut Col Thorn,Mrs A J S De Groen, Mr Burnell & Mr Thomas president & committee members of the Gundog Society of Australia & conveyed those gentlemans best wishes for a successful inaugoration. In continuing his address Mr DeGroen expressed the hope that this club would in the near future venture into field of field trial promotion. The speakers intimated that the Gundog Society of Australia would be willing to make available to us the use of that clubs films of gundogs in action; provided we undertook to see that a competant man handled them. In concluding Mr De Groen again wished the club every success, & promised that any assistance either he or his club could give would be readily forthcoming. Mr Marshall a committee man of the Gundog Society also supported Mr De Groen's remarks & added his personal,good wishes. An apology & expressions of good wishes were also recievedfrom Mr & Mrs J W Peniucuik of Lisarow, who also promissed support as did Mr WG Hill. The president then proceeded to thank the members for their attendance & as this was the first meeting of what is probably the first club formed under the new control he hoped they would forget any animosity they may have born in the past & attend the meetings of the club, join in all discussions & bring forth any suggestions they may wish to make, & in general meet in a spirit of friendly goodwill & thus lay the foundation of a very successful & enjoyable Northern Gundog Society. The following is a list of donations recievedafter the meeting for which the club is sincerely grateful.
