Anna Miller

Anna Miller - About 1944
Anna Miller was born on May 24, 1860 in Devon, England, the fifth child of George Miller and Mary Ellen Isaac. Anna came to Canada in 1891, and upon landing in Montreal, immigrants were fed corn on the cob from huge boilers. She recalled that she could not eat it, as that is what they fed the pigs at home! She travelled by rail to Winnipeg, and eventually ended up as housekeeper to the widowed George Quinton.

In about 1893, they were married and had six children, but the first two died in infancy. The others were:

  • Cora Violet Quinton, born November 28, 1896
  • Ethel Florence Quinton
  • George Godfrey Quinton
  • Albert Francis Quinton
Anna outlived her husband George by four years, and passed away on August 17, 1947 at the age of 86. She, like George, loved to sing songs of their youth and tell stories to their grandchildren.
