Miller was born on May 24, 1860 in Devon, England, the fifth child
of George Miller and Mary Ellen Isaac. Anna came to Canada in 1891, and
upon landing in Montreal, immigrants were fed corn on the cob from huge
boilers. She recalled that she could not eat it, as that is what they fed
the pigs at home! She travelled by rail to Winnipeg, and eventually ended
up as housekeeper to the widowed George Quinton.
In about 1893, they were married and had six children, but the first two died in infancy. The others were:
