THE BRITISH MODEL FLYING ASSOCIATION

The British Model Flying Association ( B.M.F.A. ) is a non profit making association of model flying clubs and individuals, who agree to pool resources for the benefit of all. It is controlled by its Annual General Meeting and administered by a management council elected from its members.
The B.M.F.A' roots can be traced back to 1909 when the Kite and Model Aircraft Association ( KMAA ) was formed shortly after an exhibition at Olympia featuring model aircraft. In 1921 the KMAA was replaced by the London Modellers Association, and became the Society of Model Aeronautical Engineers ( SMAE ) in 1922, at which time it was delegated control of model flying by the Royal Aero Club. In 1948 the SMAE became a company limited by guarantee, and at the Society's Annual General Meeting in 1987, it was agreed to adopted the working title, British Model Flying Association.
The B.M.F.A. are responsible for setting the guidelines that model enthusiasts work to, in order to try and make our sport of model flying as safe as possible to all, regardless of whether you participate or spectate.
The Association now has 716 clubs ( about 27 of these are youth groups ) with members affiliated being in excess of 35,200.
