- 2007 Stratford nighthawks Race -
 (February 3rd & 4th)
 
Any concerns about snow cover were quickly dispelled when Mother Nature dropped 6" of fresh new fluffy snow Friday night and into Saturday’s start of the first two day event of the Stratford Sled Dog Races. The Start/Finish of the race had been moved to the property of Pete and Donna Johnson in Stratford because of a lack of snow cover at the Stratford Nighthawks Snowmobile Clubhouse. The new snow caused some minor problems with the parking area but the participants all pulled together to get their vehicles into place for the start. Meanwhile the North Country Mushers were out on the trail using ATVs and snowmobiles to break out a trail for the race. The trails were untouched because the Nighthawks groomer drag had broken down. Saturday’s trail was a bit soft as it didn’t have time to set up but the trails for Sunday’s race were well groomed and hard packed. A Saturday night spaghetti dinner to benefit the Stratford Youth Organization topped off the weekend event.
Sponsors and Other Thanks:

- Pete and Candy Livingstone of Blueberry Hill Inn and Cafe -> top three competitors in each class were awarded one of the 'signature orange baseball caps' plus a one night stay at the Blueberry Hill Inn and Cafe

- Peter and Donna Johnson - use of their property for the 'dog lot'

- All other residents of McMann Road - for graciously tolerating the additional traffic

- Brian McMann and Mike Lynch - for plowing and sanding McMann Road

- Stratford Nighthawks - $435 purse distributed to the top three competitors of the 30 mile class

- Stratford Nighthawks and the Groveton Trailblazers - for use of their trail system

- Rhonda and Bob O'Hearn - top purebred trophies

- Stratford Youth Organization - for putting on a great dinner Saturday evening

- Mike & Sue Ellis, Jim Lalla and Bob O'Hearn - for giving up time training their own sled dog team(s) in order to mark trail and work this event.
