Why I set up a twins club

Whilst I was pregnant with my twins, I was fortunate enough to have a local twins group, being able to chat to other mums of multiples, was of great help to me. The group was only just established, so it was unfortunate that the free room that the group used was allocated to someone else after a few months probably because they were paying! I was in hospital waiting to have my twins when the group finished and therefore lost touch with the other multiple mums.

I had toyed with the idea of setting up my own group, but felt that I had enough to do just looking after my children, I also have another child who at the time was to young to attend school. So when the twins reached their second birthday I decided that it was about time I pulled my finger out and started to put a bit back and help others. Every multiple mum deserves a break from the seemingly endless questions and stares, so I was determined to create a place where multiples and their parents feel like one of the crowd.

After initially getting lots of negative feed back from people who had a room that I might have been able to use, I eventually contacted the CVS in Preston.

At last, I had found somewhere where I could hold the meetingsbut as with most free offers, this free room is limited to a few months. But I am not one to shirk the offer of a free room once a month, for a few months. If the club is needed in the Preston district, then I am sure I can then muster up enough sponsorship to enable the group to hire a room.

Once established I would like to see the Preston Multiples Group fundraising and holding multiple fundays for parents and multiples in Lancashire. But enough of my dreams of grandeur and back to the mundane

Getting the club some publicity is how things stand today, I have posted posters all over Preston, in places ranging from the maternity hospital to the local shop. (My limelight-hugging duo are loving the attention as I coax shopkeepers and others into displaying the posters.) The group is even mentioned on a few websites, and I am hoping to get a club website up and running soon. This week's priority though is to phone all the local papers, and maybe even try a few media contacts too! So beware you might see my campaign trail on a TV near youwell only if you are a Lancashire Lad or Lass!
