COMMUNITY SERVICE  1999 - 2000   Under Development

Adopt a Highway The Rotary Club of Norristown has adopted a stretch of highway along Route 202 by the Dannehauer Bridge.
Camp Neidig Each summer, the Club sponsors 7 high school students for a three-day leadership development experience
Charles L. Reed
Memorial Park
Donations were made to the Charles L. Reed Memorial Park.  This Memorial Park is a joint project along with the Harleysville Rotary Club and the Harleysville Lions Club
Community Contributions
Elmwood Park Zoo Through donations of over $20,000 from Club members, a new community room at the Zoo was furnished
Community Service Recognition Three area firefighters were chosen by their superiors to receive this award
Habitat for Humanity Over $1,200 was collected and 17 Rotarians donated their time to work on targeted houses in Norristown.  This initiative received 100 percent support of the membership
Head Start Christmas Project Santa and his helpers gave out gift bags to over 90 children from the Head Start program
Polio Plus Club members make ongoing contributions to the international drive to eliminate polio from the World.  Rotary International was the driving force in this successful International effort.
Rotary Grove The Club built and continues to maintain a landscaped area adjacent to the Elmwood Park Zoo for Norristown and tri-county area residents to enjoy
Strike Out For Hunger The Club raised over $2,100 from the local "fight against hunger" and sponsored 268 underprivileged students from local organizations to a Philadelphia Phillies game.  Rotarians also provided transportation to the game
Student Loan Fund The Club supplied interest-free loans (up to $1,000/year per student) to selected area students for college.  In 1999, 37 students received loans of $1,000.  Over the past 18 years, the Fund has granted 425 loans totaling $285,000.
Student of the Month A total of six students per year are chosen for special recognition from each of four local high schools for their academic and community achievement
Thanksgiving Dinners The Rotary Club of Norristown purchased and delivered 25 complete dinners, including turkeys, to needy families in the greater Norristown area.
