MY DVD OPINIONS I love DVD's, I have about 70 of them and that's way to many. This essay rant is my opinions on DVD's and how each should be made. Personally I think themost important thing about a DVD is the menu's, and that's animated menus mind you. No Recent DVD should be made without an animated menu. The menu is that important cause it is the first thing that one looks at when one see's the DVD. If you take the PREDATOR 2 realease for example, it's menu was bland, and was really not very good. Oh now I'm exited to watch is not what one thinks when they first pop that disc in. While the menu's of THE RING are pretty creepy, setting a feeling of unease with the strange images shown. So i believe that DVD's need animated menus to show the quality of the DVD, and to get the viewer enticed to watch it. I mean even my PUNISHER DVD form Walmart that cost 5.88$ has a smalll animated menu. Special Edition, Ultimate Edition, Tricked-Out Edition, Super Ultra Ghettotasticly Full Of SPecial Features On 10 Discs That You'll Never, Ever Watch Edition, and then the "I only have a trailer, 'special' edition". All these are realated to Special Features, when really was the last time you actually cared enoguh about a movie to watch an hour long documentary on it's catering service. Most of the features on most disces anyway are TV promos anyway. I think that to have a proper DVD a disc needs a trailer, a comentary, and delted scenes, what else do you really care about, except maybe a few SFX featurettes. In reality all of 5 people have looked through all of the Features in the FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING Extended Edition. It's 2 discs of Features alone, some of which probably are about the catering service. Though it is expected for big name movies with 230 bajillion dollar budgets to have 2 Disc setts most of the time the general aduience would be content with just the few thing listed above. I mean comentaries are really the most important thing. I'm tired of realeases were all that one recieves is a trailer and a non-animated menu. I really hate it also when on the little box on the back of the DVD it lists menus, subtitles and the like as special features, when really every DVD should have them period. So really I just want better quality DVD's for my not so gigantic budget movie, and I commend ARTISIAN for their efforts in doing so. They make fine DVD's, for low budget movies, andf the rest of Hollywood should follow their example. SEE MY PREVIOUS RANT HERE |
