SUMMER 2002 - CAMPING
SUMMER 2002 - CAMPING
We rented a big motor home to accommodate our seven guest. We had stocked the motor home, and our camper, for the weekend before their arrival. With the help of some of our Alaska family Debbie, Steve and Amanda, off we go to Seward on Friday, July 26th.

Seward is about 125 miles south of Anchorage. It was wet and windy by the time we reached the campground. But we managed to get the three camp sites we wanted - with the two campers and the motor home side by side. A space for the boat and also the tent that had to be errected. Debbie had driven her SUV so it was good to get this caravan all in one area.
How many people does it take to erect a tent?

All available hands, that's how many! On this wet windy Friday afternoon it took some hardy folks to set up this tent - but Steve in the red vest surveys the job & says "well done".
Start the campfire and warm up!

Again it's all hands to the fore and get this fire going. You can see the clouds hanging over the mountain peaks across the bay. It appeared there was a difference of opinion on what they learned as Scouts, about starting fires! Finally Brian thinks it's time to strike the flame. Debbie laughingly looks on.

Amanda goes off to walk the three black labs, but someone is saying something to her and it's lost in the wind. So she has the labs "sit" while she answers, whomever spoke to her.
As the fire got going good, the heavens open up and the rain pours down. It was a mad dash for all to get into their respective lodgings. It was decided we would have sandwiches on this night!! So ends our first day camping. Tomorrow is sure to bring better weather and the guys can go fishing.
The ladies have plans to go hiking, sightseeing and shopping.

We are even given a beautiful rainbow, promising a better day tomorrow.
