FOR THE FULL STORY! Don't pass by this one!
Owning, driving and racing my 1988 Porsche 944 for the last three years is a dream, okay sometimes a nightmare, but many pleasnt memories surface when thinking about my experiences with this car. All in all, not once have I regretted purchasing this car.

Here I have displayed some high quality pictures I have taken of my car in various settings.
Enjoy

Transmission Replacement: DON'T SPIN THE TIRES OF A 944

Getting Towed from NJ
A Little History on the Transmission Destruction and Installation:

1. Thank God the transmission went the day AFTER the last autocross of the 2002 race season.
I was creeping to a stoplight in Central New Jersey when CLANK! The car came to an immediate halt. Thank God that I was following my sister. I just put my stuff in her car for the trip back to Rockland County New York.
It was a true blessing that my transmission went when it did. I was about to garage it for the winter anyway, it was after the last race of the season, I had a ride home, AND I just happened to be working at an automotive repair shop for six months durring this time! Priase the Lord!

2.
The shop owner pointed to the bolts to remove and let me do all the work. It was out in about an hour and a half. He said, "That's pretty good, but I could have had it out in an hour."

3. The next day I opened the transmission to see what parts needed to be replaced. I also cleaned the casing, that's why it's so shinny in the background.

4. The gears that broke off were on the ring and the pinion, quite common on 944's. In this picture you actually see the gears that were sheered off over two years of hard racing at autocrosses (with the occasional spin-out).
The transmission in these pictures is actually the second one in this car, which shows how susecptible they are to breaking. The 944 S and Turbo have larger ring and pinion gears to account for the increased horsepower and torque of the more powerful motors.

5. I stopped workign at the shop to attend the spring semester at Fordham Graduate University. I had the car towed to my house to install the replacement transmission in my garage. The reason why I didn't simply purchase new ring and pinion gears was because the parts, seals, and syncro's would have come to $1,200, not including the man-hours and specialty tools needed. I had an opportunity to purchase a used 1990 944 S2 transmission with 40,000 miles on it and a factory limited slip differential, but the cost was $1,400 and I am one of the poorest Porsche owners I know. Thus, I had to settle for a used 944 transaxle for $700 after saving up from working at the local bank.

6.
Here my dad is taking a look under the car. Since the transmission is in the rear, all I had to connect it to was the driveshaft, shifter rod, and rear axles. The clutch and everything else is up where the engine is. (For those of you who don't know, the 944 sported the nifty water-cooled engine in the front compared to the 911 with it's air cooled, mid-rear mounted engine...for those who swing that way). The hardest part was wiggling it up there between the exhaust and the spare tire casing.

7. Whew! After the relatively simple two-day installation,  my car was back on the road and better than ever! The new transmission has much better syncro's. Now I never grind the gears shifting quickly from first to second gear. Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!

Twinkle Light Photo Shoot: Artistic Curves and Light
The esthetics of the Porsche 944 envelops onlookers in its voluptuous curves, appearing as a beautiful woman's body. In the pursuit of capturing the essence of this car, I shot these photographs under six sets of 144 bulb-twinkle light sets. My best friend, Nick, installed these lights to illuminate the notorious beer pong tables that shortly replaced my car. Be sure to check out the ghost image, spooky.

All of the pictures displayed on this site were taken with my digital camera. Except for the very first and very last pictures which were taken on film and scanned in.
The camera was a Christmas gift from my father in 2001.
Since than I have taken 7891 pictures! Mostly of my friends. I recommend getting a digital camera now!

Currently I am a graduate student at the Alliance Graduate School of Counseling in Nyack, New York (A Christian College). I purchased this car in the September of 2000 and have not regretted the decision once. Besides cars and photography, I also enjoy music, snowboarding, piano, ATVing and I am very active in my local church.
I hope you have enjoyed these pictures! Please e-mail me with any comments or questions at: [email protected]
