| The 80's History Project Terrorism Berlin Discotheque Bombing April 5, 1985 Libyan-backed terrorists bombed the La Belle Discotheque in Berlin, West Germany, killing two American soldiers and a Turkish woman. 229 people were injured in the bombing, including 79 Americans, most of those were servicemen. The bombing was said to be Libya's response to the U.S. Sixth Fleet sailing into the Gulf of Sihdra, claimed by Libya, and destroying Libyan patrol boats and shore emplacaments deemed to be a threat to the fleet. The United States responded by bombing targets in tripoli and Benghazi in Libya, killing 60 people, including one of Libyan leader Momar Gadaffi's children. |
