Symphonic Blast Production is a label based in Malaysia who released not only asian extreme bands but also some other bands from other region. They are also the one who organize the Extreme Assault Festival every year and cater some other services like Art and Design services for a cheap price.
Interview by Joselito and answered by Kia

Hello Kia, how are you now? How's your day after the Extreme Assault Festival?
:: Hello Joselito!!! I'm fine here but busy as hell doing my daily routines - 9 to 5 job, running my labels, hanging out with friends, playing in my bands and so on. I like my life!!! I was happy when Extreme Assault Festival is over!! Meeting new friends and share the same ideas with bands, fans etc etc.

Can you feed us the history of this festival and how it started?
:: Well, Extreme Assault Festival started with a join - venture labels between No Action Taken Distributions and Grundar Productions in 2004. Three of us whom are Mazmi / No Action Taken Distributions and Prop / Grundar Productions and myself came out with ideas to brings up and explore the extreme music to the Asian scene and even worldwide. So we worked hard towards doing this festival and the rest is history...

What are the people reaction and bands comments about the gig?
:: To promote this festival is not an easy job for us, we have to do everything by ourselves; searching for the bands, venue and so on. We have to spread the news everywhere so that people around would come and enjoy this festival. The first festival went smooth, with great crowds and bands, we're really tired but we're happy to do this again and again. It gives us spirit of continuing what we're doing right now!!!

I know it's quite too far yet to ask but I guess you have already a future plan for the 2006 festival. Do you have any plan you would like to share.
:: Our plan for Extreme Assault Festival this year will be in Singapore. We would like to have this festival everywhere but I think it will not be happen for the time being. And most probably for this year's festival, we would like to invites more bands and we have already in mind about the band we're inviting to perform. Watch out for updates!!!

Are you also planning to invite some bands come from the Philippines?
:: Yes why not!!! We would like to invite Philippines bands to if possible. Hopefully we can work something out soon. As for now, we have Singapore's and Thailand's band playing in our festival. So band from Philippines is also a good idea!!! Our idea is to spread and expose this extreme music!!!

What about your label, why did end the Ungrateful Bastards Productions and start the Symphonic Blast Production. Are there any differences between this two production labels?
:: Ending up Ungrateful Bastards Productions doesn't mean that my spirits is fading away with what I've did for the label, it just the time for a change. So I decided to end up this label and doing a new label which is Symphonic Blast Production. Ungrateful Bastards Productions was mostly distributing exclusive releases from the bands itself and also outsider labels. As for Symphonic Blast Production, we're signing bands which I think it's the possible way to brings young and talented bands worldwide. And also we're putting out some exclusive releases from bands or the music that we like!!! Not big difference between these labels. The main idea is putting out good bands and music!!!

You and Tiong are the one who handle this label. Besides from both of you is there anybody who helps you to work on this.
:: Recently, we have recruited a friend of ours which he wills handling all designing job for Symphonic Blast Production and he is Pak Tua. He's also playing in band called Blood On Wedding Dress >> technical hardcore grind. And yes, we're happy to have him in our family. Basically Tiong is handling another branch of Symphonic Blast Production in southern Malaysia, and the headquarters is still mine which is located in Shah Alam, a city next to Kuala Lumpur. And we might think of expanding from time to time. We'll see what's going to happen in the near future...

Do you think this will be the last label or do you see in the future to changed another name or concept for this label?
:: For the time being, I'm quite happy with what I've done these past few years with Symphonic Blast Production. And this is a good improvement for the label and for me!!! So I've never think of changing the label's name or its' concept. So far we have 11 releases and few merchandise, so we still have a long journey to live on!!!!

Obviously SBP visions are to release more extreme grind/gore bands in the future. But you have already the 6th released titled D Beat Attack which is more into d-beat punk band. Do you have any future plan to release more bands like this or what?
:: Symphonic Blast Production's concept is not only concentrates to one music, we have varieties of music taste, not only grind core and gore grind. Most of the releases that we put out are friends of ours, and we feel the same spirit amongst ourselves!

Your latest released was the NAZZAQ cass demo. What can you say about this band and the reason why you released their demo?
:: This is a great band, 1 of the line up came from the early 90's era of our underground scene, and they got a high spirit of doing this. He came back after few years of silence in the scene and they wants to keep the spirit burning!!!! So I decided to release their full length cassette.

In SBP website there is a link titled DEMO SUBMISSION. If you read the details it obviously that you are welcome any band to pass their demo. Do you accept all type of bands like into ska, punk, Oi/punk, etc or there is only a specific type of band you welcome.
:: As you can see, all of our releases are mostly into brutal, extreme and sick music. Do you think that they'll send in their demo to us after they hear our releases???
(Joselito: I think so... If I have band into Ska or Oi maybe I could pass our demo for future release. But of course my band is into extreme ska or extreme Oi. Do you still accept us? He!)

As of today, how many bands passed their material and mostly what type of band and from what country.
:: For the time being, we received a number of materials from various countries and not only Asia but as well as Europe and US. Some of the music is our taste and we like it, we will hear their demos and all submission are accepted based on certain criteria. So we would not simply sign any bands. We can't help all bands in this world!!!

Beside of SBP label I've read that you are also catering art and designs services. Tell us more about this and tell us who already get your services for this.
:: Oki, we're doing this service for a cheap and affordable price! And of course it's underground price! This service is only covers Malaysia and Singapore regions, we will expanding. We have few options for bands, labels and magazines or even individuals for doing their releases and merchandises or even websites. We have few labels and bands which have already did the business with us.

You are also the one who run Obscene Production Asia. What is the difference between these two labels? And tell us more about this label.
:: Obscene Productions Asia started right after the Ingrowing tour last year. Differences? It's totally support the extreme underground music!!! Only different management and handling. For more info about Obscene Productions >> www.obscene.cz and for Symphonic Blast Production >> www.symphonicblast.net

This is my common and undying questions. Any thing you know about the Philippines.
:: Beer is cheap and chicks are beautiful!!!

What can you say about some opinion that most of the rip off people is from Malaysia and of course Philippines? Do you agree about this?
:: Yeah, this is not healthy!!! This is one thing that we risk our releases, or even $$$ when we write to somebody, not only in our country but everywhere in the world. So we should keep ourselves beware and aware of this activity!!!

What about on the festival. Any people you would like to thanks for this event.
:: There are a lot of people that I would like to thanks on this list, and I'm sure it wouldn't be enough space. He he he he... bands, fans, friends, our crews, our management, our family and girlfriends. We love you!!!

Any future plan and upcoming releases for SBP you would like to promote.
:: Currently we're working on releasing a new born grind core band called Tools Of The Trade. So watch out for this extreme grind core band!!! Next are Borox (Indonesia), Extreme Decay (Indonesia), Blood On Wedding Dress (Malaysia), Infinite Delay (Malaysia), Locomotive (Czech Republic) and many more on the way!!! Also we're on the process of editing our Extreme Assault Festival 2005 video cd.

Well Kia, that's for all now. Thanks for the time you give to me and say hi also to Tiong. Any last few words you would like to say.
:: Yeah!! Thanks to you for interviewing us in your webzine. Stay brutal and sick with extreme underground music!!!
