Proletar Interview [September 26, 2008]

Hi Ipuletar! Greetings from the Philippines! I hope all things good over there before you start answering this interview. Ok before we start lets talk first for some usual but important question I always asked. Tell us a short and fast brutal history of the band for the benefit of other people whos not familiar with the band?

:: Band was established on middle of 1999 in Jakarta, our beginning formation is only 5 People and we already launch 2 released albums, its titled massive resistance And Rakyat Jelata. After that a personal left and theres only 4 people in band and we are released the there`s a spectre haunted which is split with SATELLITE (in a dis/crust). And finally all band members out and I left alone, then I bring new member into the band which are firman (vox/bass) and diyan (drum), with this formation proletar was launched 2 released war against the new world which is split with EXTREME DECAY (in a grindcore) and universal ideas. After that released diyan out left the band and replace with Levoy (drum/vox). So now theres only 3 member of band, Firman (vox/bass) myself (guitar) and Levoy (drum/vox) and our latest released is physical and mental torture

Is there are any relation between the name PROLETAR to your name Ipuletar? : ) What is the band name means?

:: HAHAHAH.. no, I got no connection or something serious between my name and PROLETAR, lotta people named Ipul in here, I just wanna being the cool one and then change it to be IPULETAR, the LETAR is taken from PROLETAR word its self which id mean PROLETARIAT (rakyat jelata in Indonesian language).

PROLETAR official website quite not updated anymore since you said that there is no more webmaster who maintain the site. Well what is new with the band now? I knew that your latest released was your discography CD Back To Hate Evolution. Tell us more

:: Ok, back to hatevolution discography is the collection of our released from the beginning until the latest physical and mental torture, there are 55 tracks inside. Btw, Latest news from us that we were writing and make a new material for our upcoming full length album. Hopefully we could enter the studio record early next year and also we could launching album and celebrate our 10th anniversary.

Do you have still any plan to put up the band website or hire any webmaster who could maintain the site or you much more prefer to use the service of Myspace instead of official band website?

:: Hrmmm, probably, well see later. I should focus to do that. If we had a lot of time, surely well prepare all of that coz stuff going complete and such easy if we had a professional website.

Ok lets talk with the discography CD, Im thinking only that this project looks too early to release, but it is rare already to have a copy of some records included on that discography CD so why you decided to put this project possible? And who got an idea to release a discography and what is the story behind this?

:: Its been long time weve plan this project, I think its enough songs that were put in that released (55 tracks). Co-release with several local label and overseas label, there are 12 labels. From Indonesia and the others are from USA, Holland, Belgium, Msia and Phil. Each label are different in its shared, we thought that this is the best solution of distribution. The idea of making the co-release, manage etc is from me and Ari Bowkore (TERIAK RECS) and off course several friends of label also helped.

What about your split CD with BESTIAL VOMIT. Your record on this project is fucking brutal, mince and some crusty grindcore tunes. How it was started and hows your relation with Lofi Records and BESTIAL VOMIT band?

:: Joseph of mighty BESTIAL VOMIT and also the owner of LO-Fi recs is my best friend, its been long time weve known each other and plan this split project. Next year he plan to come over here but unfortunately he wouldnt come with BESTIAL VOMIT.

Although PROLETAR is obviously a social-political band, but mostly what topics do you prefer in your lyrics? Do you use also some vocals effects and samples like audio excerpt from a movie?

:: Mostly the lyrics telling bout globalization, system, country, capitalism, authority, consumerism, trend, etc... There are such what we feel and what we see here. The world being such what it must not be. We never use vocal effect but we have been discuss to use vocal effect sometime in our show or recording.

Last time we chat you said that youre working right now for a full length album. This news quite interesting and cant wait to see, but is there any label already working for this project or still looking? What is the update of this album?

:: After half of material has been done, maybe we will offer to several labels to get release, I dont wanna ensure which label it would be. Right now several songs already done and we were collect the videos which is has been taken by our friends and we will make it as footage bonus track inside.

Besides of massive, intense mince grindcore music we are waiting for this album what else do we expect for this record?

:: For Guitar riff and drum maybe will be faster than before material, also there are songs that we put sludge part inside. Hopefully it wouldnt be such a bored album.

What about your spare time, what else keep you all busy? Are your parents understand what you are doing or your girlfriend/family love what you do?

:: The problem we`re having right now is about time management. All of us work, I and Levoy (drummer) already have family, and it needs a lot of work to accommodate time between family and the band. I have no problem with what Im doing now. It`s just they (families) some time think that we are freaks, but I can live with thatit`s a normally!!

Indonesian Punk scene is fucking huge and one of the biggest scene in south East Asia, so what can you say about the current situation of your scene right now? I heard lots of fucking brutal grindcore bands over there and lots of nice people too.

:: Yup, there are lotta extreme music community in here, from the follower until the totally life inside, lotta color in here, lotta information from the scene and also from lotta genre.

What is your opinion about views of some Europeans and Americans that most of the rip off is in south East Asia. Do you agree about that? If yes what do you think is the main reason?

:: Yeah, I also heard lotta thing about that, lotta people not have a believed with SE Asia Scene, when were gonna trade stuff or make a project. Ive been feel it, yeah refer to my opinion its naturally. Actually its not anyones duty to improve but it does begin from our self, we must be honest to the other and responsibility for this problem.

Tell us some story you can share about your first gig experienced if still can remember? Or is there any embarrassing or unforgettable moments you would like to tell.

:: Every shows had special memories for us, surely...

What about touring outside Indonesia, I heard that you are planning to tour in Singapore and Malaysia. Tell us some details about this?

:: It just a planning, a friend from msia invites us to play over there and hopefully it does gonna happen then if possible wed like to continue to other place there.

And what about Philippine tour, do you have any plan to conquer us here? We cant wait to see that if you will say yes!

:: Woho, it must be excited playing and meet with you and other friends there. Well try to grinding Philippines.

By the way, how is your label Badai Records. Any new project on going right now you would like to spread.

:: We havent release new stuffs yet since PROLETAR back to hatevolution, now we were distribute import cds and proletar merch.

Ok besides of the full length album any upcoming project you would like to reveal and share to us or maybe some upcoming shows.

:: After show with MAGRUDERGRIND on last 2th July we will take rest for several month ahead, maybe we start and take a show on October 18, weve try to concentrate of making our new material and maybe people will getting sick if too often catch our show.

Personal question, what is your first grindcore/noisecore record album heard and what is your reaction?

:: Im not sure with my answer, hmm maybe TERRORIZER world downfall or NAPALM DEATH scum or utopia banished damn sorry I FORGOT. First reaction ..Crazy off course!

What about your first grindcore/noisecore gig attended? What is your first reaction too?

:: Maybe its not specific to a grindshow at that time, there is several black n death metals there, I see one of Indonesian grindcore band at that time, its TENGKORAK

Besides of being neighbors in SE Asia, what else do you know about the Philippines (scene, culture, politics, people, etc)?

:: Philipines.I KNOW Noiseattack zine he..he..henice scene, nice people, nice records label, lotta cool band there such CHOKE COCOI, CRUSTATION, DISABUSE and PARACONFLICT for sure.

Ok, thats for all Ipuletar. I hope you like interview and didnt give you headache. Its your turn to say something... bye!
