Inner Surge Interview

Hi there, how's Inner Surge now.
>>Hey Noise Attack, Inner Surge is very well. We're excited about the album and what the world will think of it.

I've checked that Inner Surge band website is already up. Who manage the site and what's new with the band website that capture our attention to visit the site
>>Yes, the new www.innersurge.com has been relaunched, and there's new mp3's, photos of our video shoots and album artwork, press for the new album and the most recent news as well. Keep checking www.innersurge.com and www.myspace.com/innersurge for all news and to get in touch with us.

Your latest album "Signal Screaming" under of Cyclone records will be out this coming April. What's new with this album compared to your previous album?
>>This album is much more aggressive and to the point than either of our other albums. The music is also much more technical and the album feels different. We feel it's the most powerful thing we've done and it's the beginning point of our new path musically and ideologically.

Your latest album will be release by Cyclone Records, how it was started that IS had signed to this label.
>>Brad from Cyclone Records contacted me about releasing the album, and I liked what he had been doing with Cyclone Records. They have some great CD releases under their belt such as Creature Republic's new album, the Calgary Metal compilation CD and others. We came to a deal and I'm sure it will work out well for everyone involved. We're excited to work with Cyclone. Their website for anyone who wants to check them out is www.cyclonerecords.ca.

Also what is the reason why "Matrika" album will re-release on Cyclone Records?
>>Yes, "Matrika" will be re-released electronically through Cyclone Records. We thought it was a good idea to include one of our other releases to give Cyclone Records fans more of our material to check out.

Except for having an album, what else Cyclone Records can offer you that have you decided to signed on their label.
>>Press is a big one...they can help us get to where we need to be as far as exposure goes. They provide electronic distribution to make it easier for people to access our music. They are working towards getting to a stage where we can be put on tours as well. We're trying to help them to that point with the promotion of this album.

By the way, for the benefit of other people out there most especially to those who don't know yet Inner Surge. Could you please tell us what kind of band is IS and usually what kind of topics IS deals on your lyrics.
>>Inner Surge is a heavy intelligent band. We are inspired by activists such as Malcolm X, Noam Chomsky and Talisma Nasrin, people who stand up for human rights and what they believe in. That being said, our lyrics in many cases don't deal in specifics because we don't want to spoon-feed people. What we are about is sharing ideas. This is the most important thing. You have to trust that people are going to follow their own path.

Are you happy with your current line up? Tell us more about the band and how it was started.
>>100 percent happy. I have started Inner Surge in 2001. Bryan Sandau was playing in a band called Extasis and he heard what I was doing and wanted to start something new. We started playing in early 2005, him, me, and the guitarist Scott Taylor. Him and Scott were playing some pretty technical material and I was listening to a lot of hardcore and punk at the time, so we thought we'd forge a new direction, as we admired both approaches. Soon after this, we met Jim Fernandes, and he helped solidify the band. At this point, we couldn't be happier musically and as friends.

The band also has shot 2 videos. Could you tell us more about these videos?
>>We recently shot 2 music videos with Fredy Polania of Polania Productions for the tracks "Retribution Song" and "Flames in Synergy". Retribution Song is inspired by the 2005 massacre in Uzbekistan partially, and is also partially inspired by popular revolutions and the squashing of them by dictatorships worldwide, and so on. The mood of the video is quite aggressive, and there will be a lot of performance, but not your average video for sure. The mood is that dissent cannot be crushed, so this is our _expression from the other side of the world, and we can and will say whatever we damn well please.

"Flames in Synergy" is a much simpler but more subtle concept. I'll have to see myself how it comes out, but the song is more emotional and is about internal resolve and struggle. It will feature artwork from Shaun Friesen of Free Zen Design.

How's hard to take the video, have the band enjoy a lot while shooting the video.
>>We definitely enjoyed the video shoots, though it was probably the hardest workout we've ever had. We brought all our equipment into the middle of the woods for some shooting in minus 16 weather. It was quite the experience, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

What is the preparation for the upcoming release party of Calgary CD this coming April at the The Underground. What the people who come over there could expect on the band?
>>There has been a lot of preparation, interviews, reviews, lots of press and advertising. Brad from Cyclone Records will be flying in for the event. People can expect a full on and intense show, and the unexpected. There are some great bands playing with us like Kilbourne, Johnny Incognito, Arcane, Revolution and Screams of Silence, who are one of my favorites. It's not going to be your average show.

I guess after your album launching at The Underground there is already booked tour dated this coming month. Could you please tell us more about the date and details and if you are aware what band you gonna play with?
>>We'll be playing in Edmonton with Gate and In Oath of Hera, as well as in Medicine Hat with the Dying Effect and the Set. More details are at www.innersurge.com.

Do you have any plan to tour outside the country or is there already some offer to play far away from your place?
>>There are plans in the works, but that probably won't be for another few months. Be assured we are working on it and will be traveling soon! Very soon!

After this new album you have is there already some future or upcoming project having planned now that you can reveal to us?
>>We are focusing on the music videos, who know; maybe a DVD...and we already are working on some strong material for the next album and going over the concepts. There's a lot to come.

What do you know about hell I'm living right now or I mean is our country Philippines?
>>I know that people are the same everywhere and deserve the same respect. So thanks for reaching out to us from the other side of the world. We won't forget it.

Well, thanks for the time Steve. Tell us more you want to say!
>>Stay aware everybody, and take care of yourselves. You can follow up on us at www.innersurge.com, www.cabrassoundtrack.com and www.cyclonerecords.ca.
