FromTheAshes Interview

Hi Johan, how are you now? How's your OEF tour?

Hello Joselito! Just fine. The tour was great, except that we had to cancel one gig because of trouble with the car we rented. (Thanks a lot Inaveltjockskalletobias & Mamma). Other than that it was really nice. A lot of party with a lot of nice people!

Well, ok let's start with the band. I knew that this undying questions I guessed you already answered for several times. But for the benefit of other people out there could you tell us your current line up right now and the story behind of FromTheAshes names and how it was started.

Ok, here's a little bio: Stefan and I started the band in the beginning of 2002. We took the name from a Napalm Death song. Jonas joined the band a little later. We did 2 shitty demos in 2002. In 2003 we released a 7" called The End, and in 2004 we released a full length cd called Mind Vortex. We have done a bunch of gigs in a bunch of countries. Hopefully we will have some more records released soon.

Your last full length album you have done is your Mind Vortex full length cd released by Acoustic Trauma Rec. Let's talk again about that album. What are the other people reactions on your records? Is there is any upcoming project working right now for the future release like your Mind Vortex album.

Some reviews we got of the album were really great and some not so great. Most of them good. We have somewhere between 50-100 copies left of the cd. If someone's interested we sell them pretty cheap. Trades are also cool, get in touch. Right now we are waiting for the split EP's with Nashgul and Splitter to be released after a million delays. We're also making songs for a full 7" (and maybe 3" cd) that will hopefully be released faster.

What about your first demo Dead and Gone? Is there any comparison on your music from your first demo compared to your latest record?

Well, both demos we made really sucks. Slow and completely untight and basically just shit. I think the newer recordings sounds better. I don't think there is a really big difference in the music itself though. Maybe a few more chords now, but still not very technical music.

You will be having upcoming split project with Splitter and Nashgul. What is the update on this project and what label will release this?

The latest update about the Splitter split is that it will be released in the beginning of September I think. The labels behind that one are Obituary, Cage Match Federation, Loud At Heart and Anarkopunx Records. I don't know about the split with Nashgul. The vinyl is pressed; we're just waiting for the covers. Hopefully they will be done soon so the record can be released by Cooperaccion Records.

Are we gonna expect new stuff for this split project with FTA? What is your preparation for this project?

I'm not sure I understand this right, but yes, there will be new songs on the splits, if that's what you mean.

Last July you have been touring with Splitter for several days. How your tour with them is and what can you say about this band.

It was really fun to drive around playing and drinking with Splitter. They're good friends and a good band. Check them out at www.splitter.se

I've read some comments about your show at OEF last July and it's really you kicked their entire ass. (They like it!) Tell us more about the gig and do you think this will be not the last you will be play on that annual festival.

It was a great to play there. Pretty shitty sound on the stage though, so it was pretty hard to hear what we were doing, but people seemed to like it. And it was ALOT of people there, really cool. Hopefully Mr. Curby will let us play there again sometime.

What can you say about the crowd at Czech compared to crowd at Sweden? Do you think they like your show?

Crazier (is that a real word?) crowd. Swedish people have to be really drunk to move.

What about other bands you have been played. Who among them do you like their performance?

A lot of great shows on Obscene Extreme and the rest of this trip. World Downfall, Nashgul, Massgrav, Skitsystem, Cripple Bastards, Driller Killer, Disturbance Project, Pretty Little Flower, Pisschrist, FUBAR and more...

Do you think the grindcore scene at Sweden become stronger and wider nowadays. What is your view about that?

It seems to be popping up more new bands all the time, see below for some recommendations.

Besides of OEF is there any upcoming tour outside Sweden or maybe outside Europe to come. Do you have any plan to visit us here in Asia or maybe in the Philippines?

We are going on another tour with Splitter in October (Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands I think). We would really like to come and play in the Philippines and Asia someday. I have read some tour diaries from bands that had been on SE Asian tours and I really wanna do that some time. We just need the money and time and some help booking shows and stuff.

Honestly bro what can you about Philippines? What is your view about most of the rip off people are from Philippines and other part of SE Asia. Do agree on that?

I honestly don't know very much about the Philippines unfortunately. I think I have some studying to do in that area... I have traded records with a few people from SE Asia and I haven't been ripped off.

In your spare time what are your doing? Do you still studying or working now? What about the other member?

Right now we're all working.

By the way, let's talk about your band. You played grindcore of course. But, what type of grindcore is FTA. Is it a political, porno, gore, death, etc?

Well, we don't sing about porno or gore. The lyrics are mainly about stuff that pisses us off. We're not politically active but we still have opinions about stuff that you might find in the lyrics.

What is your view about some porno, gore, cyber grind band? Do you have a list of this kind of band you listen often?

I don't listen to that kind of stuff very much actually. Usually I think it's pretty boring with that kind of lyrics, but some goregrind can still be really good music.

Tell us something about your scene there in Sweden. What band do you recommend to us and some grind band you really like?

Here is a few bands you should check out: Radioskugga, Arson Project, Infanticide, Firing Squad

Who managed your website? I've see that you have lots of t-shirt for sale on your merchandise link. Who made the design?

Right now we only have one t-shirt design I think. We have printed 50 of each design and when it's sold out we make new ones. I have done most of our designing stuff. If there is some band/label/zine/whatever that needs a logo or something get in touch. I think its pretty fun to do and I'll probably do it for free. [email protected]

Well I guessed that will be all bro. Thanks for your time and I hope you enjoy answering the interview.

Thanks for the interview Joselito! Hopefully we will come to the Philippines someday and play some shows and drink some beer. Cheers!
