Dick Stink Interview Joselito: Hello Roman how are you know. How's the life in Greece. Is there any some non sense bored and sensational news happening now in your place? Roman: Hello Joselito. I'm totally ok! Well life in Greece is sometimes good and sometimes not, it's a little bit expensive here but the good thing is that there is a very good night-life so you can spend a good time just when you want to. The only good news is that everyone is sucking and fucking hahah! Besides that there's nothing unusual, just the same shit everyday. Joselito: Your latest album "Be not Afraid" is totally fucking insane. Fucking brutal and I really like it too much. It's not the same like some bored noisecore band out there. Well, could you please tell us more about this album? How many days it take before this album done. What do you think is the difference on this album compared to your previous releases done? Roman: Thanx man....we like it too hahahhah! Well, it took us 2 years to complete this demo. Yeah it's a long time but we had a lot of pauses because there were some personal problems, mostly personal and financial problems of the band's members, especially with our jobs. I guess the jobs made us have no time to complete it when we had to. But on the other side this was good, because of that we had some sort of time to pass through different shit and so to be influenced to lyrically go not into one direction but into lots of stuff that has to do with our community nowadays like politics, musick, porn and what the shit else there is. That's why there's not only the blast-beat from start to end, but also some well thought riffs that match with the titles and generally make the whole thing more interesting(I believe). Compared to our first demo ''Born to die'' which had more Grind influences I could say that this is more noisecore, more specific and it represents much better the way we want to be heard and be. And if I think about our previous release ''Brain Eater'' then this is what we mentioned before, only blast beats !!NOISE!! hah! Joselito: DS composed of 4 members, could you please tell us a short story how the band started. Where did you get the idea to name your band DICK STINK? Do you think this is the best line up you ever had. Roman: Ehm yes, in September 2001 the idea between very good friends came that we wanted to make a band inspired by older noisecore bands we love so much. 2 months later we did our first rehearsal, our line-up was the same except our drummer which is now Bill and then was Thomas, he left because of personal problems and because the fact that he couldn't have the energy the others had to get in there and bang the shit out of the pots hahah (meaning drums). By the way since then our line up is: Me Roman on guitar/six string masturbation, Michael is on the bass/4 string farts, John does the vocals/deepthroated mic and Bill bangs and humps the drums/perverse pots hahahaha!!! The first demo was recorded in spring 2002 named Born to Die, rehearsal self-recording and release, including 10 tracks of noisecore with some Grind influences. After this came our second demo Brain Eater on december 2002, which contains 666 noise shits in the vein of old Anal Cunt, 7 M.O.N. and others. It's a pure noise hell, just like our next release, a split cd/tape with Biological Terror released by Melophobia records. The tape/cd contains 25 BT tracks and 1727 DS tracks. Until today we finally released the demo Be not affraid, we got cancer to make it hahahah. One day we were drinking and talking bullshit John came the idea to mention Dick Stink as a band name. We liked it a lot and decided to be named Dick Stink (the ones who have filthy and stinky dicks hahahahah). Joselito: We all know that most of the noisecore band runs only their tracks not more than a minute or not too long for 3-5 minutes. But in your opinion do you think not putting lyrics in every song is not too much important or just because you think it's not necessary? Roman: Well, most of our songs are less than a minute too, you cannot play noisecore for 5 minutes cause it would be much more organized and therefore it wouldn't be noisy. It's ok if you do whatever you like, if you just want to play without lyrics or if you want to say something about anyshit, both of them are ok for me. We also have no lyrics on 2 of our demos but on the others we have although you cant' understand a fucking word hahah. Joselito: Do you agree about other people say that noise or noisecore is a joke band? What can say you about this? Do you think people say that is because like I've said that most of the noisecore bands don't put lyrics and only titles for every track they have? Its look like that they don't even have any point of view by not putting lyrics or sometimes titles. Roman: Who says that? Ha! Well, of course noisecore bands are not joke bands, if I remember bands like Filthy Charity and S.R.M.P., U.G.B. and others, all of them played very seriously and had some great opinions in their lyrics talking about community stuff, politics, anti-fascism but also other stuff. Generally there were a lot of bands which supported their ideas/believes and were talking very seriously about them. So this is what I said before, if you just want to be loud or if you both want to say something and be loud, it's everyone's personal choice and should be happy about it. Also I think that if someone wants to do just something joky and funny, he could do it by wanting to mock on anything or his even own title, just like we do from time to time, for example ''TVGays'' in our latest release. That's my point of view. Joselito: What is your fave noisecore band besides of Anal Cunt? What about noise experimental band. Do you listen on it and what band do you like. Do you know Napalmed from Czech rep? What can you about them and to other noise band? Roman: My fave bands are: Cripple Bastards, Meat Shits, Filthy Charity, Sound Pollution, S.R.M.P., 7 M.O.N., Necrophobia, I mostly know the older stuff but also new bands which I don't remember tto mention now. I know Napalmed is an old band but unfortunately i didn't have the oportunity to listen to them till today. Joselito: What kind of noisecore band can we classify DS. Actually most of the intros I've heard on your latest album are excerpt from some porn movie. Do we call your band as a porn noisecore band or what? Roman: Yes we are are porn noisecore band but in general we also talk about other things if we just want to. What I mean is that we have a lot of porn but we also tend to write and play about various stuff if we are into it. We mostly have porn intros cause they're fun and we like them just the way they sound!! But in general we haven't spent so much time in finding the intros that suit with the titles, we only used them if we came across them. Joselito: Do you have also some songs that with lyrics? Mostly what topics do you tackle on your songs? Do you much prefer on political and social side or into porn, pathological gore lyrics or some non sense, nowhere to go topics. Roman: Yes we have 2 demos without lyrics but all other demos do have. Talkling about the Be not affraid demo, as you can see from the titles, one topic can be very different from another. We have a lot of topics which include all of them you mentioned above, but our point is to make them seem like a big fucking situation and mess of nowadays, it's about what we are living and going through. Joselito: On your "Be not Afraid" album you've got 58 tracks, what is it all has lyrics or all titles only. There is some titles like "ji-had". What its mean? Also the same with "death metal" and "black metal", plus the "tv gays". What is it a negative or positive comment? Roman: It has 58 tracks, all of them do have lyrics. As we all know Ji-had is the supposed holy war, we don't like the whole scenario so we wrote about it saying what bullshit it is. Well in black metal we mention bands that are completely useless to me for what they are trying to say or to be like. In the track Death Metal we are talking about what we have grown with and what we like about it. And well ha, TV Gays talks about all the fucking faggots you see on TV, this is supposed to be trendy hah! For the dick they cried hahahah!!!(Greek expression) Joselito: Your Brain Eater album contains 666 pure noise with no titles and no lyrics. How do you differentiate every track you have in this album and how do you rehearsed this album before you record? You also record your 1727 song demo for a split project. What is this all? Untitled too. If I asked you to play the 666 tracks and next the 69 tracks and followed by the 100 tracks. Can you still all play this without problem? Roman: The Brain Eater as also the Anal Vomit/split is just a pure noise hell, we never rehearsed that tracks before and can't play it exactly the same way again either, we just got into the studio and recorded some 20 minutes of hell we rehearsed. Because of this go-record-leave thing the 2 demos are very unique for us because they sound exactly what we were like at that moment. That's why although they are some kind of the same idea, they sound and are kinda like different. Joselito: How's your last gig at Papagalos? How's the people reaction when they see you playing live? What are the other bands you have been played with? Do you have any upcoming show to come? Roman: Well it was very fine, noisy and catastrophic! Some of the people already knew us but there were others who didn't know a thing about this genre and weren't that positive about what they heard haha! Anyway they were not used to this. There was another band named Echidna, they play melodic Thrash/Death with many influences from the Swedish scene . For now we don't have planned any gig, we prefer that period to work on a new release or to do some split with others. Joselito: How's the noisecore scene and noise exp. scene in Greece. Is there also some other noisecore band you could recommend to us. Roman: Nowadays we are the only greek noisecore band, except if you can mention Autophagia as a Grind(Gore)-Noise band also, but I don't know, I know them as a Gore-Grind band. Besides that there is one exp. noise band from Athens named Keos Peos, But I don't know anything else about them. But there were lots of bands in the early 90's which were very active but unfortunately don't exist anymore. I like their tapes a lot. Names as Sound Pollution, Necrophobia, Grinding Disgust, Urban Noise, Sadoctonus etc. Joselito: What all keeps you busy right now. Are you all still studying or what? Who from the band have already his own family? By the way, what is your parent's reaction of what you are doing right now with your band? Do they know that you are a rock band grind star. Ha! (joke only man�) Do they support you of what you are doing the same also goes with your girlfriend. Is she a fanatic of Dick Stink? Roman: Well we all are studying and working. No none of us has his own family(what a luck hah). Well our parents are very cool about it and have absolutely no problem about this. Perhaps they even don't give a shit about all this hahah! Our girlfriends are not fanatics but they support us in what we do, come to our shows in other ways hah. Joselito: Last question, what do you know about the Philippines? Ok, that's for all now.
