Down From The Wound Interview

Hi Randyl, how's your life now Are you not tired of seeing everyday all those Koreans you teaching? He!
Everything is well with me bro, well I didn't get tired even a single second with those Korean kids coz it's really fun teaching them and I really enjoyed a lot. It's a different kind of experience for me, I've learn a lot from them and I know they've learn a lot from me also, including those nasty words I have thought them, hahahah too bad I'm not working in that school anymore.

Correct me if I'm wrong but your last record released was the split CDr with PUS VOMIT. Could you please tell us more about this split project and share us some feedback you received who already heard this record.
Yes it was, the split CD "Split Disembowelment" contains 8 re-mastered tracks from our demo "Piercing Through the veil of lies" and from Pus Vomit's "Vomit the abdominal Pus". Each band contributed 4 tracks and also includes live footages of both bands from the Rural Carnage. Released under Condemned Records and Berdugo Records and also distributed by Guttural Sickness Zine.
The feedbacks are always good.

The first time I've seen DFTW is in Manila and a trio with no bassist. And then now its look like that the missing slot for bassist is already fill in. Tell us some story how it was happened and why you decide to have a bassist?
We always wanted to have a bassist even before the day we started the band. We cannot find a perfect bassist that time that's why we decided to become a three piece band for the meantime. Rust Honra our former bassist did not do well with us, that is why we decided to kick his ass off the band, until we found Jay-quin. We asked him if he wants to join to fill up the missing slot, he agreed then he started practicing with us immediately.

Besides of knowing about your missing bassist, could you please tell us short story about how DFTW started and why did you named the band as Down From The Wound?
This is long shot I'll just tell you the summary. Well, the band started out in the year 2001, and we suffered from a lot of different line up changes until we gain stability by the year 2004, Tristan on gutturals, Jeff on guitars and me on drums. Then Rust joined the group filling for bass, after a couple of shows he leaves the band and Jay-quin was the latest addition filling the missing slot. We have released two demos out, two splits out and also was included to a couple of compilations and now our debut album "agony through rituals of self purification" our latest offering that will be out this month (October) on Sevared Records.

Do you work in Manila, right? And the band base on Pampanga, North. How did you manage your time to each other to make a schedule for practice and have time to record your latest album?
No I don't work in Manila anymore and we are not based in Pampanga, we are based in Olongapo City. We find it very easy to manage our schedule when it comes to rehearsal, we do practice every Sunday because this is the only day most of us are available. (Jorj - Ok bro, I guess when the time I'm writing this interview I'm eating tocino and longganisa from Pampanga's Best. He he he Is there also Olongapo's Best?)

Lyrically speaking what topic you mostly tackle on every songs you composed? Do you think music is much more important than lyrics?
Both of them are very important to us, we focus to both music and the lyrics. Unlike any other brutal death metal bands here in the Phil, we don't have that much gore oriented lyrics and themes, we are much more into reality based shits, hypocrisy and about those negative aspects religion based shits. Tristan and I do the writing. We do the title first and based from the title itself, we composed the words for that song.

Sevared Records released your debut album "Agony through Ritual Of Self Purification", what can you say about this album and tell us more how it was started?
The album has 14 tracks; it features 10 studio recording and includes four tracks from our previous demo "piercing through the veil of lies" as bonus tracks. The plan of releasing an album was made after our very first song was written.

Also how many tracks and mostly what topics do you tackle on this album? Do you have also chance to decide for the album layout and design or you leave it all to the label decision?
Each of our every song has a different particular topic. We do not use the same topic that has already been used to the other song.
Barrett of Sevared Records let us do everything we want in the entire CD design. The CD inlay including the CD label design, the inner tray card and the outer tray card was done by Tristan and was conceptualized with the help of me and Jeff.

How's Sevared Records as a label? Do we expect any new upcoming projects to come in near future or any project in other label?
Sevared Records has been treating us so good though the CD should have been out earlier by October, but we understand the cause of the delay. No future projects in another label yet but an album will surely be out again by late 2008 or early 2009.

What do you do if there is a label offered you to make a split project with a punk/rock ska band do you will accept the project? Why?
Definitely NO, I will not explain it anymore; you should know the reason why Tsk!!! Tsk!! Tsk!!!

Besides of being a Sevared Records artist as of this time, is there any other label you wish to release your album or any upcoming project that you dream of? Maybe they're possibly read this interview and decide to choose your band for their next project.
We wish to be included in the roster of brutal death metal bands from labels like Unique Leader or Unmatched Brutality Records. These labels put out the records mostly of our favorite death metal bands.

Some of our friends in south are wishing to play live here in Manila and up there in the North. What about DFTW, do you have any plan that is currently on working to tour down there in South at Davao where lots of death grind killers supporting you.
We have plans but since there are still no bookings/offers, we just have to play all available shows here. But if we will be given a chance to play in the south most particularly in Davao, we'll take that opportunity. Why not?

Besides of DFTW are there any other bands from North that you could recommend to us? How's the scene over there.
The scene here is pretty good I think other bands worth checking out here are Defecated, Downgrave, Atonement, and 11th Plague.

Besides of being busy with the band, what else keep all you busy right now? Do you have also any other side project band or activities doing right now?
I do some small business to support my needs, Tristan works in Royal Duty Free as a sales clerk, Jeff's contract from his previous job recently ended and now seeking for a new one. Jay-quin has to stop going school to take care of his mother. Besides that, none of us are into other side band project.

Last question bro. This interview would not complete if I didn't ask you about this. If you want you can check some of my previous interview from other bands. What do you know about Korea? North or South He! (because you are from Philippines so why other country :)
Besides of the famous Korea Novelas like Jumong, Attic cat and etc.. I've known South Korea as a rich country while North Korea is not. South Korea has been Americanize that is why the Korean's send their children's to Philippines to study and learn Basic English here. Since 1960's (I've thought this from my student named Kim Min Chi a sixteen year old girl, one of my favorite student's before, her English name is Julie) well as I have said South Korea's Economy is evidently better than the North. They achieved the success through their government's will and People's cooperation. They focused on how will they make South Korea became a rich country while the North is focusing on how will they make more nuclear weapons. That set's apart South Korea from North Korea leaving them far behind into Progress.

Ok bro, that's would be all. I hope we will see you guys down here live in Sampaloc soon. Thanks! Any last words!
Thanks for giving us the opportunity to be included in your zine.
