INTERVIEWS AND MISCELLANEOUS

1976 FM with Laura Gross (Backbeat)

Can you believe that John actually talks more than Stevie in this interview?! The most I've ever heard John talk. He and Chris joke back and forth with each other he calls her a cow and she tells him to quit drinking then he says she f**iing drives him to it. She reminds him they're on the radio. They laugh a lot in this. Stevie talks about the mystical aspect of their show. Lindsey says the show is the band and the fans together. Besides that they discuss the breakups, the fans, their writing process, why they think they're unique, plus more. This is a very good interview! The sound has some background hiss.

1976 FM Innerview with Jim Ladd - 1 CD

Two recording sessions, one at the Record Plant and one at Stevie's house. All but John are there. Changing styles so often was a good thing. It's hard to separate work & home. Buckingham Nicks joining the band. 'The cutest thing since Levi's.' Ginny the dog was there. They did a couple of shows in the south after they joined FM. Chris's style is more similar to B/N than it was to Bob Welch. Pronunciation of Rhiannon. Wrote it 2 months prior to joining FM. Branwen & Rhiannon. Chris in Chicken Shack. How other people's opinions affect them. Groupies.

KOME 1976, KDKB 1981, WLIR 1980 - 1 CD

'76 KOME interview with Stevie - releasing the new album (Rumours) in January. Can't tour with it because the fans don't know it. They tried in Kansas City but it didn't go over well. Talks about Silver Springs (she still thought it was going to make the Rumours album) and Oh Daddy (it's about Mick and Jenny). Robin is there during the interview. Going to Hawaii. Her hair is several colors (blue, red, green). Their plane is the 'party plane'. Mick consulted a numerologist for the album titles.
Stevie "FM Live" album interview KDKB Phoenix, AZ 1981 Stevie talks about the remix for "Fireflies" and how she didn't like the original version. She talks about the live album, Bella Donna, how the next album Mirage needs to be about compromise and how Lindsey realizes he hurt the band's feelings with Tusk.

Rock Year 1977: Rolling Stone Continuous History of Rock and Roll - 8 minutes

1977 Jimmy Roach Interview - 2 CDs

Interview clips from everyone but John. The sound is muffled, but listenable. Stevie on spending most of her time on her lyrics as opposed to Lindsey and Chris spending most of their time on the melody, it didn't take a long time to get to know the other members of the band, she's good friends with Christine, Rhiannon is from a book she read about a woman with two personalities, parts of Crystal are about Lindsey and parts are about her dad, usually her songs are about her friends
Mick on Lindsey and Stevie joining the band. "It was meant to be." The band's early success with Peter Green, how the writers in the band work together, Bob Welch leaving the band
Christine on Sugar Daddy really being about wanting a man for his money and not for his love (she spells out 'LERV'), she's mainly concerned with melodies, people read things into her lyrics that aren't there, taking things out on each other sometimes, they understand each other, her role in FM
Lindsey on moving to LA and being pelted with people expecting them to be more commercial, there's an art to writing a single, Lindsey is not word oriented like Stevie is - he works around a guitar riff.

Includes the songs: GYOW, Dreams, Just Crazy Love, Landslide, Cryin' in the Night, Oh Well, Jewel Eyed Judy, Sugar Daddy, YMLF, Over My Head, I Don't Want to Know, World Turning, Second Hand News, Blue Letter, Don't Stop, Show Me Your Smile, Warm Ways, Rhiannon, Crystal, Hypnotized (cut)

1977 Fleetwood Mac: Countdown to Christmas

Billy Crystal hosts 'The Perfect Album Side'. Includes interview clips of Lindsey and Stevie on: What Dreams is about, how Stevie's songs are 'to be continued', the Rhiannon ballet, the traumatic making of Rumours and why they joined FM.

08/07/78 Cleveland Press Conference

Complete!

1978 Press Conference

20 minutes. Stevie, Christine, Mick are discussing why a show in Ohio was cancelled due to Lindsey being in the hospital. They also talk about putting a new album together (which will become Tusk). They discuss the rescheduling of the show. Incomplete.

1978 FM Conversations

Apparently, Mick carried a tape recorder around with him for a while in 1978. This is a 45 minute long recording of several conversations the members of the Mac had. Part of the discussion is about whether or not they should ask Lindsey to perform a concert from a chair after he had a spinal tap (this was in '78). Then they're riding in a car and Christine keeps saying she won't do the interview that day because she can't get a word in edgewise. Stevie keeps apologizing for talking so much, saying she should have gotten in the other car, but doesn't stop talking ;)

1979 Stevie Tusk Australian Interview

This is a fantastic interview! Stevie discusses the meanings behind different songs on Tusk with the DJ.

4/23/80 Fleetwood Mac Innerview with Jim Ladd (Tusk) - 2 CDs

Part 1 - Lindsey & Mick - Jim picks on Mick since he was late. The Tusk recording - a loop of 10 people talking. Natural progression to the Tusk sound. Couldn't have reproduced Rumours, anyway. Not always obvious who songs are about. The potential for greatness is there. Issues coming up in the 80s. It's 'not that funny' to be out of control.
Part 2 - Stevie - Stevie whispers through most of this. She loves to live in a world of magic. Destined to be mother goose. Bustling in the kitchen reminds her that she's not really a princess. Riding in station wagons in the early days of FM. Sisters of the Moon - not recognizing herself. Wrap her in velvet like a corpse. She tells Gabrielle to 'catch a fever.' She may never marry. Many people in Sara. Mick is a 'dear friend.' It's the 'delight of her night' to sing Sara. What they'll be doing in 20 years. Talks about Aaron from Rhiannon legend. She always wanted to be a good writer.

1980 Livewire Interview - 1 CD

This is taken from a press conference. Everyone was there except Lindsey (they say he was spending time with his mother) Mick and Stevie answer most of the questions, but Chris makes a couple of comments. The sound on this one is muffled.

Stevie on a live album being a last resort, she talked to Don Henley about being tired on the road, they nearly died but they recovered, they tour in a 'deluxe' way, videos are not better than a live show
Mick on the pressure of creating a monster like the last album was, Lindsey has more songs (Stevie says, 'four' and everyone laughs), Lindsey is more responsible technically in the album than the rest of them are (Stevie says it's his first love), the double album allowed the three songwriters to show more of their personality, Tusk wasn't going to go on the album, they played it onstage for a year and a half before it became a song, they called it Tusk because it sounds like a herd of elephants, not calling it quits, they don't have a master plan, there will be a live album at some point, they're not ready to do a greatest hits yet, videos being good for bands like KISS (he says they have no artistic value), doing the double album was a healthy thing for them to do

Includes the songs: The Chain, Think About Me, Tusk, Tell Me All the Things, Rock Sugar, Rhiannon, Don't Stop, WMYTYTO, Sisters of the Moon, Angel, I Know I'm Not Wrong

4/5/80 and 4/12/80 Robert W. Morgan Special of the Week - 2 CDs

Chris talks about each writer augmenting the others, the blues explosion in the 60s, her piano teacher, meeting john, her first solo gig, being a housewife, joining FM
John & Mick talk about selling out

1981 Off the Record with Anita (?) - 1 CD

Stevie talks about how she didn't hold songs away from Fleetwood Mac, you get your whole life to write your first album, writing Think About It for herself and for Chris, they couldn't give up everything just because their men were messing up their lives, her best songs come out of her being miserable, writing a book and turning her journal entries into rhymes, she wanted Dolly Parton to do After the Glitter Fades, she's not afraid of her fans, touring on her own, Tom is a very special thing to her and she loves the Heartbreakers, she'll always write, never touring for a year again, most of her songs are country when she writes them, Jimmy (Iovine) was great and disciplined, he didn't want to work with a flake, he thinks she's Shirley Temple, she's going back into the studio with Fleetwood Mac in two weeks

Lindsey Buckingham KIIS Special - 1 CD

1982 (aka 80) Off the Record 1982 with Mary Turner - 1 CD

What Bella Donna was about - she was tired. Buckingham Nicks album not getting any promotion. They moved to LA & knew no one. She ran a boarding house for all the musicians and worked. Her dad has exquisite taste & her mom is more practical. The album was a breeze. They videoed the recording. Wrote The Highwayman in '75 when she was with Don Henley. She talks about writing a song the previous night about a dolphin and a star.

The Source Event with Denny Somack - 2 CDs

Great talk show! Stevie is really fun and spontaneous in this interview! Also has interview with Art Garfunkel and Stevie talks about live performance versus studio & makes other conversation with him. She also sings a line from his song, Bright Eyes.

1981 Lindsey Buckingham - Jim Ladd Interview - 1 CD

What Law and Order means. FM work vs. his own. Tusk - wanting to do different things. Finding his father's old 78s (40s music). Spent his spare time working on his solo album. Not talking about his feelings. Stevie is the opposite. Trying to be the Beatles. Mick playing on Trouble. The end is cut.

2/21/82 Spotlight Special with Chris Eric Stevens - 1 CD

Stevie talks about: how her grandfather inspired her. She and Lindsey fought the world together, that's why they became a couple. Choosing Fleetwood Mac over Buckingham Nicks. Working as a waitress. She and Lindsey don't write together. She and Lindsey really like each other and could get back together, but it would end up the same. They're trying to be friends because they never were before. DJs playing Silver Springs. Tusk was indulgent. Women in rock. Her tapes of her grandfather were destroyed her garage fire. Kenny Loggins talks about meeting and working with Stevie. She can't go anywhere alone. She was stranded at an airport in Phoenix and was surrounded by fans. She doesn't mind signing autographs, but she was scared. She wants Lindsey to be successful. She thinks the band will break up in a big explosion (she's so psychic). Don Henley helped her write Leather and Lace out of the goodness of his 'little Eagle heart.' She doesn't think she'll want to rock and roll forever. Her fans keep her going.

1982 Lindsey and Christine with Laura Gross

Heavy Metal soundtrack written for her mother's blue lamp.

The Legendary Interviews

Everyone knows there may be only one thing Stevie Nicks does better than writing songs and getting dressed in the morning and that is TALK! Hear Stevie prattle on and on about the Legend of Rhiannon ("it is said in the translations, 'down the glorious pathways came the birds'..."), being and not being a witch ("come by my house; there are no, like, OWLS..."), being and not being Stevie Nicks ("If I can see through your eyes, then I can become you...When I sing Tom's (Petty) songs, I am Tom...I become Floridian and sort of gator-like and swamp around..."), being a tough girl despite all the lace clothing ("I am about as fragile as a bull."), as well as being inspired by her own clothes, the money, the fame, and the poetry. Stevie singing "Goldfish and Ladybug" and the full version of Rhiannon live at Rosebud 1975 are included. All short music clips support statements made during the interviews.

1994 Tommy Vance interview

1994 Fere Jacques cartoon

Stevie does the voice for an owl in this cartoon.

1997 Rumours 20th Anniversary - 1 CD

In the Studio with Stevie and Mick. The album was a "catharsis of human emotion", not being willing to give up the band during the breakups, having to deal with the tension of working together, they became close because of the heartache, writing & recording Dreams, they knew Rumours would be special, Warner Bros. was worried that the band would break up, it was a balanced album because of the three songwriters, the songs were relatable to anyone because 'love affairs are timeless', the songs told the stories of what happened, not fair to the fans to fight onstage, Lindsey kicking Stevie during a show, the band was the only thing that was healthy, everyone felt sorry for everyone else
Includes the songs: Go Your Own Way, Second Hand News, Dreams, You Make Loving Fun, The Chain, Gold Dust Woman, I Don't Want to Know

1997 Fleetwood Mac & 1984 Christine McVie - 1 CD

Up Close - The Dance: Lindsey on coming in and doing his job well. They were surprised & pleased that the album came out at #1. Lindsey's manic side, his songs moving to the left when he brings them to the band, Mick on his idea for using the USC marching band for Tusk, the old USC band members wanting to participate in the recording of the Dance, the Clinton's using Don't Stop as their campaigns, Lindsey on the 'psychic bonds' that hold the band together, the on stage interaction isn't staged. Includes the songs: Silver Springs, Bleed to Love Her, My Little Demon, Tusk, and Don't Stop

On Tour with Christine McVie: Getting nervous before the gigs, why she decided to do a solo record, she's doing it for fun, her band (including her 'old man'), the storylines in her songs - about 50% are about her, the songs they're doing on tour, she's "come to terms" with her voice, recording more solo albums Includes the songs: Got a Hold on Me, One in a Million, You Make Loving Fun, Love Will Show Us How, The Smile I Live For, Hold Me

1997 Off the Record with Fleetwood Mac - The Dance and Stevie Nicks at Stormy Weather - 1 CD Mick on how they got together for The Dance, the band's legacy, sobering up
Stevie on ditching Street Angel and going back to Phoenix, being in the band is not 'all about me', they're like high school friends, Lindsey is the one who makes her cry on the phone, for a while she didn't feel famous, she tried to grow up, nobody thought The Dance was going to happen - even in February
Lindsey on how they've changed, Mick and John going on forever, Lindsey quotes Stevie from when she said she should've left the band when he did
Christine on how she wasn't sure they were doing it for the right reasons, she's not volatile, they knew how to hurt each other
John on his daughter doing Rhiannon 'the long version'
Stevie performs When Sunny Gets Blue and At Last (sound quality not very good on these songs).

8/15/97 Lindsey and Stevie on the Mark and Brian show in LA - 1 CD

1997 Mark & Brian and Dreams: The Fleetwood Mac Story - 1 CD

WPLJ - Mark and Brian with Lindsey, Stevie and Mick. Fun show. Different from the one above.

With Dave Walker - Mick & John: the blues, Peter, Danny & Jeremy, with Albatross their fans thought they'd sold out, giving away their money, moving to the country and asking Chris to join the band, Bob Weston & Dave Walker joining the band, Bob's affair with Jenny (Mick's wife), the fake Fleetwood Mac, Bob Welch bringing them to the US and leaving the band, Lindsey and Stevie joining, John says it was the 'right time, right sound and the right drama', not just doing the Dance for the money, never say never
Lindsey: the womb-like atmosphere, he and Stevie had a 'bavarian' quality to their songs and Chris filled it in, playing other people's songs was like 'dues paid', wanting to work on songs alone for Tusk, that's his favorite album, the Tusk years were the end of an era, giving up the ghost for Mirage, it's a generic album and is his least favorite, all his Tango songs were for his solo album, Tango was 'a low ebb', the worst time creatively
Chris: it got to the stage where the band didn't show up, she bought a Royles Royce on a credit card, she thought Tango was the end, Stevie and Lindsey's big fallout in over touring, it's good as long as it's honest and not a big fake, they sound better, maybe with age comes wisdom
Stevie: her parents told her to go back to school "you're a flop!" it was the most fun when the band first started working together, the Rhiannon story, she met the author of the books, she didn't like or understand Tusk at first, France was 'unpleasant'

1998 Stevie Nicks Enchanted Best Buy

Interview with Stevie from Best Buy promo CD.

9/06/98 Stevie Nicks - Off the Record - 1 CD

Interview with Joe Benson on 93.1

Stevie talks about Christine and the fact that there weren't many women singers in those days, breaking up Buckingham Nicks to join the band, she gave her 2 week's notice at her job, they didn't need another girl, they didn't know each other well enough to fight, they were a mutual admiration society, the band would take her skeletal songs and make them new, they actually took a cassette and recorded the sound of birds rising, their first concert was in El Paso, Texas, she was nervous until she walked on stage, everyone broke up, it was hard not to be bitter/nasty, hard to see Lindsey with another woman, "It was enough to make me absoluetly ill.", she's grateful for what Lindsey taught her, Tusk was uncommercial but Sara was, she wrote Sara on the 4th of July in Dallas, Stevie wrote beautiful love songs about Lindsey but he didn't write them for her, rock 'n' roll has done everything for them, "I'm not quitting."

Includes the songs: Over My Head, Little Lies, The Chain, Gypsy, Rhiannon, Landslide, Dreams, Go Your Own Way, Sara, Gold Dust Woman

5/17/98 Stevie Nicks The Enchanted Interview

A+ quality. Taken from a DSS broadcast on the Music Choice channel. The interview clips are very short. Stevie likes to tour for three months, soundtracks are wonderful if you can hear yourself in the movie, she doesn't like that no one ever hears those songs again after the movie is over, she hopes her fans are inspired by Enchanted ("life is good"), of all the songs on her box set Rhiannon most defines her, they were nearly finished with the box set and were doing the Grammys and the Brits and she began to think she wouldn't get it done so she recorded it at the last minute, she calls it the Titanic of Rhiannons because it's long and dramatic
Includes the songs: Stand Back, Free Fallin' (Stevie's cover), Leather and Lace, Rhiannon (acoustic)
