(When last we heard from Lady Paris, she was about to climb into the big truck chariot known as Snow White with handsome Sir Brucedad. Her adventure continues ...) As Paris attempted to climb into the big white chariot, she paused to look it over. She had never seen anything so large in her life! It didn't look like the chariots she was used to at all. This one seemed to be about a million times larger! It was spotlessly clean, and gleamed in the sunlight. On the shiny chrome pipe on the side of the chariot, was a word carved out of the metal. Paris concentrated really hard, trying to figure out what it said. "K-E-N-W-O-R-T-H" she spelled out. Hmmmm, the Cold Thing that Held the Food at Kallista Castle had said "K-E-N-M-O-R-E" and that was almost the same. Paris sniffed the air, and thought that she detected the smell of food. "This Snow White must also hold food, but heavens! They didn't have to bring so much! She was on a diet! About that time, Sir Brucedad leaned down and helped Lady Paris climb up into the truck and up onto the large seat. Then he walked around and climbed into the other side - all by himself! Lady Paris was impressed! "Would you like to look out the window, Lady Paris?" he asked her. She gave him one of her beautiful royal smiles, which he correctly took to mean "yes". So he leaned over and pushed a little button beside her seat, and suddenly her large seat began to rise into the air! "Oh my! Oh my! Whats happening?" Just as Paris was really getting scared, the seat stopped moving. Brucedad said "Now look little girl!" Paris turned and looked out the window by her side, and realized that she could see outside! Her little mouth fell open in amazement! She had never been tall enough to see out the window before, oh this was wonderful! Then she saw the front window too! Oh my!! There were things happening out there too! She could look down on all the little chariots parked at the oasis, and she was taller than the hoomans that walked around out there! Oh this was wonderful! She had never been so far off the ground! Just then, Brucedad turned the key and the chariot roared to life! Snow White shook all over as if waking from a nap, and Paris pressed herself down into the seat. "Its ok" Brucedad reassured her. "Snow White makes a bit more noise than you're used to, my Lady, but she's pulling a bit more weight too. You'll get used to it." Paris kept her eyes glued on Brucedad, hoping he knew what was happening and had it under control. He seemed very calm as he looked around to see if the way was clear. There was a tall handled stick coming out of the floor that Brucedad kept moving it around as the chariot gathered speed and caught up with the other chariots. He moved the stick several times and then, apparently it got comfortable, because he stopped moving it finally and left it alone. After a bit, Paris could not help but raise up to look out the window on her side of the chariot. It was amazing! She could see hoomans riding in their chariots beside them. Sometimes a little hooman would spot her watching them, and begin to laugh and point at her in the Snow White chariot. She giggled, realizing that even if the meowfiosa spotted her, they certainly couldn't get up here to get her or take her picture. Hearing her giggle, Brucedad said "Paris, you might not want to look out that side window a lot if you aren't used to it. It could make you carsick." Paris looked at him and batted her eyes. Silly hooman! Did he not know who she was? She was Lady Paris, and she had traveled extensively with the other members of the Royal Family. She had flown in planes, ridden in van chariots, and small truck chariots ... she had eaten things she couldn't even speak of! Pooh, pooh dear hooman, she wouldn't get carsick. Paris decided to humor Brucedad though, and reached into her backpack and took out her "How to Speek Suthun in Tee-in Eezy Laysons" textbook. Again Brucedad cautioned her about becoming carsick. Paris reached over and patted him on the hand, giving him that knowing corgi look. "Trust me Brucedad. I'll be fine. Besides, this isn't a car!" She opened the book to Chapter 15: Phrayzes Herd Every Daay in the Sayouth". Just for good measure, Paris Took out the fan and parasol that RooRoo had hidden in her backpack for her mothers day gift. She ran her paw over them, and thought of Roo for a moment. She missed him already. Sighing, she got quickly to work. Those thoughts made her sad, and there was no time for that. She snapped the fan out, and began fanning herself. The sun was rather bright coming through the glass in the roof, and it was getting a bit warm. She turned to her book. "Chapter 15: Sometimes one must inquire of others as to their plans for dining, and, if they have no other plans, invite them to join you." (That made sense, Paris loved to eat! She'd better learn this one!) The Book continued: "This is accomplished with two phrases. The first is "Jeet yet?" <Translation: Did you eat yet?> If they answer in the negative, you would say "Yont to?" <Translation: Do you want to?> Then it said to close the book and practice repeating these phrases over and over to yourself. Being ever the obedient little Lady, Paris closed the book, looked out her window, and began to repeat the two phrases. "Did jeet ..." No thats not it. She peeked at the book. Ahem... "Excuse me, madam, have you jeeten yet?" Oh no! That wasn't right! <<Burp!>> Paris slapped her little paw to her mouth and looked at Brucedad, mortified that she could do such a thing. He was talking to a little black box in his hand, and appeared not to have noticed. Phew! Paris went back to her book, but, tugging at her collar and swallowing hard, she realized it was getting awfully hot in here... ***************************** Paris sighed heavily and laid her head on her paws in the grass. "How embarassing," she thought! "I've never been car sick in my life!" Now here she was with her leash wrapped around a sign post at another oasis, while Sir Brucedad cleaned up the inside of the truck. She put both paws over her eyes and tried not think of what had happened. It was so hot ... and the book ... she had tried to look out the window but... erf! ... it was so hot in that truck! Then the bumps in the road started, and Snow White not only hit them, but so did all of the million or so wheels behind them! (Ok, 18, but it seemed like a lot more!) "Ok little copilot! Are you ready to try it again?" Brucedad came over and squatted down beside of her and gave her ear skritches. He could see she was embarrassed. "Now don't you worry about what happened. Those roads were bumpy and you've had a rough couple of weeks traveling around. But you're new mom is waiting for you, and we have to get back on the road. Just one more stop before your new home! Are you ready?" Paris looked up into the smiling green eyes of Brucedad, and realized that he was right. No one told her this would be easy, and striking out on your own can be very scary. But she had spoken to the Boss many times before she had applied for the position she was going to, and he had told her that it was exactly what he wanted her to do. "Ships are safe in harbor, but thats not what ships are for, Paris." She had no idea what the Boss meant by that, but he said some confusing things sometimes. She wasn't always sure she was doing what he wanted, but this time was different! This time she knew it was the right thing! She and Brucedad climbed back into Snow White. Paris tried to curl up on her seat to take a little nap. "Paris, theres a bed back in the sleeper, and a TV. If you'd like to go back there and lie down, you may. We have a few more hours to go, so you can take a little nap if you'd like." Paris thought that sounded simply divine. So she climbed down from the seat and went back and climbed into the bed. She found the remote and turned on the TV. There was a Muppets movie playing and she watched for a few minutes before falling sound asleep. The next thing she was aware of was a new person scratching the top of her head and waking her from her sleep. "Hi Paris! I'm Joyce! I'm Kristie and Brassy and Jessee's mom! You are going to spend the night at our house, and then in the morning, we'll get up and take you to your new home! And then guess what? No more long rides for a long time!" Paris stood and stretched. That sounded so good - no more long rides! She liked going places, but the past 2 weeks had been more than enough! Now she wanted to stay in one house with her own hoomans, in her own bed, for a very long time. She stood up, shook herself off, and waited to be lifted down from the truck. "One more stop. One more stop." **** The next day, sure enough, Brucedad and Joycemom had loaded her into another smaller
chariot, and they set out once again. It had been a very nice visit, and she had met Brassy, Kristie and Jessee. They had played a little before going to bed early because Paris had an early day. The four little corgis all waved to each other the next morning and promised to visit soon. Off they went down the highway. Paris had chosen to ride in a crate even though her tummy felt fine today. She had graciously declined much breakfast, not wanting a repeat of yesterday. As soon as the chariot began to move, Paris fell fast asleep. She remained that way for next several hours. Suddenly she was aware of the chariot slowing down. Paris stretched and yawned, and stood up to look around. Joycemom was reading from a piece of paper, and when she did, Brucedad would change the direction of the chariot. Paris just knew that something big was about to happen! She reached into her backpack for her brush, and gave her coat a quick brushing. She opened her little compact and looked at herself in the mirror. "Oh dear, I'm still a bit pale!" She pinched the sides of her face to brighten her cheeks a little, just like Milliemom had taught her. She smoothed down her fur, and straighted her OSU bandana just as Joycemom opened the car door and then her crate door. "We're here Lady Paris! Your new home! Ready to meet your new family?" Paris took a deep breath, and stepped out of her crate. Joycemom lifted her out of the chariot, and held her in her arms. They turned around and there before them was the most beautiful castle Paris had ever seen! There were trees, and flowers, birds singing, and little baby bunnies playing on the lawn. Paris looked around excitedly. Oh look! There! In the flower bed! Was that who she thought it was? This was a wonderful place, she could feel it! This was her new Home! "Paris, honey, look! Here comes you new mom. Lets go and say hello!" Paris looked toward the door of the castle just as the most beautiful lady walked out! She had a camera in her hands and was snapping pictures of Paris while at the same time, walking quickly towards her. She and Joycemom exchanged hugs, and then her new mother turned to her, took her face in her hands and said ... "Welcome to your new home, Paris! Jeet yet?" |
