Barney the Corgihuahua yawned and stretched his fluffy widdle
feets as he woke from his Sunday afternoon nap on the couch. Lawsy, he had heard Susiemom at the front door saying, "Jeet yet?" Company must be acomin'! Shaking the sleep from his head, he flopped his big floppy ears from side to side, as was his usual custom, and hurried to the door to see who was here. Joyciemom's car was in the driveway. Had she brought his wife, Kissy, I mean Kwissy, down for a visit? Barney spotted someone talking to St. Fwank Hissef. It looked like...could it be? Barney crept down the front steps and hurried to see who was in the bed of heliotrope around the St. Francis statue. "silber! silber! is dat you? is you back fwum da bwidge? lawsy, silber! you looks like you's had one ub dem pigment enhancement tweatments on your outer fluff like some ub da ladies hab on der hair, if'n ya kno whut i mean!" Barney put a fluffy paw over his mouth and gasped, waiting for the little black headed tri corgi to turn around. "lawsy, you's not silber!" the Barnster exclaimed. Lady Paris turned to look at Barney. She had never seen a corgihuahua in person before. He was quite a sight to behold! His tiny chihuahua-like face was framed by humongous ears that folded over, giving him the perpetual look of a curious puppy. His legs were longer than hers, but he did have corgi ankles. And there were those feet with all the ekstry toes! There was a tail back there wagging happily, as was its usual custom. And the fluff! Barney looked like an orange cotton ball with legs. Even though several of Lady Paris' puppies had been fluffs, she had never seen so much fur on one dog. Lady Paris, remembering her manners, extended her paw...the one with the little black dots on it...and said, "Barney, I am Lady Paris from the Castle of Kallista in Misshygun. I have come a long way to be your new sister and to help out in the sewing factory." Barney shook her paw, wagged his tail happily, and shouted, "Praise Da Boss Hissef! I's got me a noo sister!" "Yes, Praise Da Boss Hissef!" Lady Paris replied. "I have been the sister of the Princess, and now I'm also the sister of the President!" And as Susiemom and Joyciemom rattled on about what kind of pizza Waynedaddy and Brucedad ought to order for supper, Barney picked up Paris' backpack and led her into the living room. "I'm home!" Paris yipped! "I'm home!" *************************************************************** Barney the Corgihuahua led his new sister Lady Paris into the living room. She turned to look at the storm door, still decorated with an elaborate nose painting. "Is that the nose painting that Silver did?" Paris asked curiously. "sigh! dat's it, paris. susiemom sez she can't bear to clean it offa da door. she has threatened anybuddy who comes near it wif windex wif great bodily harm. she eben had da f.b.i. come an' see if'n dey cood lift it off da door glass like dey do fingerpwints. howsomeber, dey sed due to da delicate composition ub da paint, dey woodn' be able to. i don' fink susiemom will eber let us clean it. it took her ober 2 weeks to vacuum after silber left for da bwidge, ya kno!" the Barnster Hissef explained. "Well, Barney, perhapsickal we could add to it and even frame around it with our own nose paintings. Then someday Susiemom will look at the door and say, 'I'm gonna clean that mess offa there that Barney and Paris made!' and that will make it easier for her," Lady Paris yapped. Susiemom pointed to the x-pen set up in front of the living room window. "Barney, you can put Paris' things in here, so she can have a spot to have some time away from you, if'n she needs to. And Paris, you'll find your crate in our bedroom next to our bed." Barney set Paris' backpack in the x-pen and pointed out the soft rug, the toys, and the water dish that his family had prepared for her. "Oh Barney, before you show me around, I need to unpack the backpack. There are several surprises in here for you!" Lady Paris chirped cheerfully. Barney shifted back and forth from one fluffy foot to the other. There was nothing he liked better than surprises, especially when they squeaked, as Paris' backpack had just done. Paris reached down into the backpack. "First of all, Milliemom and the Emperor sent a new toy for me, and a new toy for you. Since I have slept with the raccoon all the way down here, I'll keep it, and you may have the fuzzy squeakie turtle." Barney pounced on the turtle with all his might. "SQUEEEEEAK!" it yelled. "hee hee! nice voice it's got dere! i'll name it mr. turtle, since alla my toys are named mr. sumfin or other," Barney barked excitedly. "And Barney, Suemom, Russdaddy, Divot, and Katie sent you one of these Ohio bandanas like I'm wearing. It seemed very important to them that I wear one, being from Misshygun and all." "lawsy, i habn' had a noo outfit since silber left for da bwidge! how do i look?" Barney asked, fastening the red bandana with the block "O" around his neck. "Very nice, big brother!" Paris laughed. Paris reached deeper into the backpack. There were more squeaks as she reached a latex squeakie cell phone to Barney. "This is from your own little wife Kissy, I mean Kwissy. She gave it to me in Virginny at her house last night, and she's sending it to you so you can call her anytime," Lady Paris said. "And see what Kwissy, Bwassy, and Jessee gave me? It's a squeakie cat to remind me of the cats up at Katie and Divot's house." Paris started to grrrrrr at the thought of the cats who wanted to cuddle with her, but she remembered her manners and stopped herself. "There's one more surprise from Kwissy's family," Paris yapped as she reached into the backpack. "It's this little duck statue for Silver's sleeping spot. And I have just a few more personal things to unpack, Barney. These are pictures of my family. There's Danny, my corgidaddy and Panda, my corgimom, and these are my brothers and sisters. Here's my vet record, and here's my pigs' ears, and last but not least, here's a pair of Milliemom's already worn socks that I brought to sleep with so I will have happy dreams of her!" "i unnderstand dat!" Barney woofed sympathetically. "i always sleeps on susiemom's feets, ya kno." Paris hung her empty backpack in the x-pen, and she followed Barney through the house as he carried the little duck statue out to Silver's Memorial Garden. Passing the refrigerator, Paris paused long enough to look at pictures of Barney and Silver and their dog friends. There was even a picture of herself with her last litter of puppies. "Barney, who is this?" Paris asked, pointing to a picture of a handsome young sheltie. "dat's spense, my buddy who belongs to our anty melissa. he goes for walks in da park wif us in da afternoons. you'll meet him soon," Barney barked. "Hmmmm! I certainly hope so," Paris yapped to herself. And Barney the Corgihuahua carried the little duck statue out the doggy door yipping, "hey silber! kissy has sent you annudder widdle stachoo for your sleepin' spot!" and he knelt by his sister's garden, as was his usual custom. |
