OTHER MUSIC REVIEW SITES

ADRIAN'S ALBUM REVIEWS

Adrian's page offers concise analysis of many records. And that kitty is pretty cool! And if you wanna know where Joel, Ratko, and occasionally also some other of the guys hang around when they're neither here nor at Starostin's, here you go. Adrian does some poetry as well, and, er, well - check it out! It's a place to get stuck in for a long time! Lots of thanks to Adrian for helping us with some problems as well.

BEN KRAMER'S MUSIC REVIEWS

Ben Kramer's site is fairly new to the WRC, but over the past few months his site has grown tremendously. He has started out with some WRC standards but promises has an interesting itinerary for the future! Thus far, Ben has done an excellent job with his site format and reviews, and I hope it continues to grow at the rate that it has. Great work Ben!

CAPN MARVEL ROCK RECORD REVIEW BONANZA

With an unique rating system and a layout inspired by Prindle's site, this one is a must. If anything, visit it for the hilarious 90125 review and "Top 10 Annoying and Cool Things Hardcore Prog Fans Do" in the Yes page.

COLE REVIEWS

Cole is a funny guy. His opinions are solid and he backs them up with some wry humor. And his page is really taking off (it's been quite a long time since the only artist featured was Phil Collins).

COSMICBEN RECORD REVIEWS

A very good site. There's not a great number of reviews as in Prindle's or Starostin's pages, but all of them are good and full of good musical ideas and musical taste. Ben is a very polite and intelligent guy, with a very good writing style (just read his online journal, funny and intelligent at the same time), he posts your comments and... what can I add? "Visit his site now!", maybe.

CREATIVE NOISE

Sadly this isn't being updated anymore, but is still a reliable source for reviews. Run by Brian Burks, whose tastes range from 60's pop to punk and alternative, it's currently saved at George Starostin' site.

DANIEL REVIEWS

Homepage of former SU-writer Daniel Fjäll, this is his site where he covers lots of classic rock stuff like Macca, Clapton and Zombies - plus Ryan Adams. Nice place to hhang around!

DISCLAIMER MUSIC REVIEW ARCHIVE

Jenny Rydins and Chris Williams pull no punches while reviewing all those classic bands we like so much and also cover a lot modern ones. Great place to hang around for some while.

GALPY'S MUSIC REVIEWS

Andrew has just begun his site and so far he is extremely impressive. Anndrew's writing really lets you know his feelings on an album, especially on his personal favorites. His reviews are extremely long a lot of the time, but the length has a reason to be there. Also, Andrew's pal Doug writes for the site too, but I have heard rumours that his opinions are inferior, so I don't take them as seriously as I should. But that's mean. Anyhoo, I really think there is a lot of potential for this site, because when Andrew's at his best, I am not sure any reviewer tops him.

GEORGE STAROSTIN'S CLASSIC ROCK AND POP REVIEWS

Together with the Prindle site, this is the "most major" of the interactive sites. Go visit his messageboard and try to count all the different visitors if you can. George allows his readers to post comments, but luckily he doesn't allow you to post a complete review - that'd bring away all the reviewers on here, that's for sure. This site is very popular, remember? George himself is a smart guy who has maybe the best review style, and he is also a great pioneer with his well-known rating system. He might be a bit snowed up in the 60's/70's music, and it's obvious that this is where he really is an expert, but he's doing his best to get deeper into the 80's and on. Well, if you haven't visited his site yet, it's probably time to do it right now.

GUY'S RECORD REVIEWS

A relatively new site, with lots of rather obscure and otherwise uncovered stuff - like R.L. Burnside, and the Amps! Thanks's to Guy's girlfriend Els, the site probably has the most well-developed and, uh, just BEST layout around the WRC! (Note: Els has recently took on the job of webmistress of SU!)

JACK FEENY'S CD ARCHIVE

Check out his "high fives" lists. Oh, and the reviews are good, but you probably already know that.

JOHN McFERRIN'S ROCK AND PROG REVIEWS

Here's another recently started review site, growing quite fast while John is a serious guy. His reviews are often long and informative - but good. At least his latest reviews, while he has developed his own style a lot since the beginning (John, soon you have to rewrite your earliest ones!). I (Joel) like his site a lot, he captures a home-brewed feel that adds a fine atmosphere. And John'll gladly post your comments.

MARK PRINDLE' S SITE

I don' t like very much this site, sometimes Mark does certain original statements for the sake of originality (Led Zeppelin III?!) and often writes in an offensive style. But in his site you may find very intelligent statements about albums and general considerations about music. But Mark seems not to care about them and doesn't develop his best ideas (at least, this is my, Federico's) opinion). Here you can find a lot of bands, from the 60's to contemporary. Very good site.
Joel's footnote: Myself I kinda like his site - it has a nice home-brewed atmosphere.

MUSIC JUNKIES ANONYMOUS

Our big brother - most of the ideas for our site first came from MJA. The site is run by Nick Karn, and he allows his readers to post both comments and reviews. The site has got an awful lot of reviewers, and is growing very fast. Plus - most of the reviews are well-written, though often very subjective (which isn't always a minus). There's a lot of discography gaps, but who are we to complain?

OBSCURITY

Obscure indeed. Run by one Mr. J. Hendrix (?), who covers mostly previously charted ground (60's and 70's pop-rock) and does it well.

THE REACTIONARY REVIEWER

Yet another fast-growing new site, but already a bit different from all the other newbies. Unlike most new reviewers, a former Prindle-disciple Peter Ross decided not to waste his time on reviewing the Beatles, Bob Dylan and other such gentlemen. Instead, he offers his opinion on a vast variety of hard 'n' heavy, and sometimes, progressive bands, which instantly brings a smile on my (Ratko's) face. He's a pretty nifty writer too - producing relatively short, concise reviews. Certainly a promising review site for all who like their music heavy or complex.

ROCK IS DEAD - LONG LIVE ROCK

An interactive site run by Marco Ursi. His school work prevents him from doing regular updates, but give him some encouragement and he'll probably write down a couple of new reviews as soon as possible. And, the stuff heactually does is really good.

RUTH'S MUSIC, BOOK & FILM REVIEWS

We're very pleased to introduce this brand new site - especially since Ruth has contributed a couple of excellent reviews to this site, as well as to Adrian's Album Reviews. While we're sad to see her go, we do wish her all the best luck with this, already impressive, new site. Although at the moment Ruth's site doesn't feature a huge amount of music reviews, there's still plenty of other goodies for you to sink your teeth in - including her book and film reviews, some lovely short stories as well as an unique "idol worship" section. An excellent place to go if you've grown tired of "classic" review sites who offer only music reviews and nothing else.

SCOTT FLOMAN'S ROCK & SOUL MUSIC REVIEWS

Scott is a good concise writer and never has a word out of place. He's built up a big selection of artists from Alice In Chain through to Al Green, Zero 7 and much else besides. There are lots of lists on the site which makes for interesting reading. Scott updates pretty quickly, although always producing carefully written and very readable reviews.

SUPERFLUOUS MUSIC/BOOK REVIEWS ARCHIVE

Jacob reviews not only music (from The Beatles to Limp Bizkit), but individual songs, books, even guitars. An interesting read. And, he's ambitious! (in opposite of some others, hrm-rmm... :-) )

STEVE AND ABE'S REVIEWS

An enjoyable and pleasant site, not too big and not too pretentious, allowing you to post comments. The site's glory days are still to come, be sure to visit it. An interesting note is that this is probably the only father-and-son reviewing site on the Web.

WILSON & ALROY'S REVIEWS

A HUGE site with tons of information - that's what can be said about this one. There's no kind of interactivity, so we have to be satisfied with Wilson and Alroy's reviews or we'll have to get away. Although it's a great site.
Ayoze's footnote: they're isolated from the rest of the Web community, and therefore not many people like them, but the range of genres they cover is amazing and when they praise an album you can be sure that it will be worth checking out.

Joel's note: A problem with 'em is that they've often got whole artists pages, where they have written some three actual reviews of the albums they've heard, but then rates every other album as well, no matter if they've actually heard it or not. And THAT bugs me.
