All the nervousness in her body left in a rush, as she looked into her friend's familiar face. Helena ran up to her friend and gave her a quick hug and then held her back to look at her.
"Oh my God, Emily. You haven't changed a bit!"
Emily beamed a smile as she returned the glance. "You look great, Helena. It's so nice to see you again."
Helena reached in for another hug, but her bladder gave a quick kick reminding her that she had been holding it for some time now. She quickly released her friend and ran into the small bus station. She hardly had time to look around and see the changes.
Stepping out of the bathroom, she was greeting by her friend once more.
"So What do you think?" Emily said as she gestured around the bus station.
Helena looked around and finally noticed the changes. The walls were the color of the bright blue sky outside. The floors where a tasteful vanilla color. The desk had been changed to a deep colored chest nut. Just seeing the changes made Helena think that her hometown might be a different place now.
"It's wonderful," she replied. "There are so many news things. Has the rest of the town changed?"
Emily just smiled and started to walk out. Helena followed like a lost puppy, scared and happy to know that changes had been made.
"A lot of things have changed and a lot of people have moved," Emily started to hush her voice. "Some strange things have been happening here in the past few years. A lot of people didn't like it, so they left. I don't blame them. I almost did myself."
Chills ran up and down Helena's spine. So much for changes, she thought.
A lot of the houses had been repainted and repaired. The shops had all been re-organized. As Helena walked she saw a number of people looking out of their windows. She looked over and they would quickly shut the blinds again. It sent more chills swimming down her spine. She kept walking until she noticed a well known store from her past and entered it. She let out a breath as she noticed that nothing had been changed. It was the same old store. Helena looked over at Emily.
"The good old Penny Store. Remember when we were kids? We used to drive Mr Chase crazy!" she recollected.
Emily laughed as Mr. Chase approached them. He stopped dead in his tracks as he noticed Helena. The blood seemed to drain from his face. He approached a little slower.
"Helena," he started. "Now, your face is a face that I would not have expected to see around here for awhile. I mean after your hasty leaving. What brings you back?"
The color was slowly returning to his face. Helena pulled Emily closer.
"Well for Emily's wedding of course! I could never miss her one special moment."
Emily face beamed with happiness. "Girl, I knew I could count on you."
They hugged once more. Out of the corner of Helena's eye she noticed Mr. Chase's son. Helena ran up to him and hugged him.
"Brad! It's so nice to see you."
He pulled himself away quickly and ran back into the supplyroom. Helena looked at Emily and Mr. Chase.
"What is going on?" she asked.
Emily and Mr. Chase exchanged weary looks. Finally Mr. Chase nodded and patted Emily on the shoulder. She looked as tired as a mother with 6 kids.
"If your going to be staying here for awhile," he said. "There are some things you need to know and watch out for."
