Poetry Slam
Another project for English class was reciting a poem of our choice, either by singing it or, well, saying it. You know what I mean. Anyways, I sang "Losing Grip", by Avril Lavigne. I think I did pretty good, though you never know. I was the last one to pass, which was a bit intimidating. Here are the words to the song, if any of you want to know.

| Are you aware of what you
make me feel, baby Right now I feel invisible to you, like I'm not real ![]() Didn't you feel me lock my arms around you Why'd you turn away? Here's what I have to say I was left to cry there, waiting outside there grinning with a lost stare That's when I decided [chorus] Am I just some chick you place beside you to take
somebody's place [chorus] Crying out loud I'm crying out loud Open your eyes |
Biography
Avril is a middle child, born in Napanee, Ontario. On a writing trip to NYC, she caught the attention of Antonio "LA" Reid, who snapped her up and signed her to Arista. At 16, she moved to Manhattan and began work on her debut CD. She worked with some very talented people, but wanted to write her own music, so she moved to L.A.
Theme
The theme of this song, I think, is really just one person giving all he or she's got, and just not getting enough in return. It was a personal deal with Avril, who said: "That is definitely one of my ex-boys-he didn't give me what I needed emotionally."

I chose this poem because it matched my voice, it was a better choice for me than my previous one, "Bring me to life", by Evanescence. That one was just too high-pitched for me. They just happened to be on the same C.D., and at the last minute (the day of the Slam) I decided to go with my second choice, and only made one mistake while singing. Plus Avril is a great singer/songwriter.
