What does
across the river mean?? Well, in my day,if you lived
on the West Bank of the Mississippi River and wanted to go
to New Orleans on the opposite bank of the river
people would say "going 'cross the river", (by ferry, of course).
The area offers an artist a great wealth of material
from which a painter can choose.
Starting from the city of Port Sulphur near the mouth of the Mississippi
River, going west to the city of Grand Isle, La., then coming down Highway
1 to the cities of Golden Meadow, Cutoff, Larose, on down to the city of
Thibodeaux. This area has fishing boats and camps, wildlife, and old homes
of another era. I could also mention marshlands, and oil rigs, and the Gulf of Mexico.
We will feature some great cajun dishes in
Rita & Oren's Cajun Kitchen, and learn a little
about my life in Westwego in
Oren's Bio . To view the paintings, click on to the

I live in the one square mile city of Westwego, La., which is on the
West Bank of the 'Big Muddy' opposite the 'Big Easy'.
Next, go down the river road along the levees of the Mississippi River to
Baton Rouge, La. This area is rich in culture with old , historical, and
antebellum homes. From here, we can double back to New Orleans, La.
with it's multitude of subjects to paint.
All of the above mentioned area is in about a 95 mile radius. With this page, I will
feature some of my paintings, and in time, those of other artists.
I will feature what I call Folk Art in one of the galleries. I call my work
folk art because when I paint from memory it resembles folk art.
