Area Man Wondering Which States Hawaiian Interstates Lead To

Area man Steve McGarrett wonders which states the interstates in Hawaii lead to. Hawaii has
four Interstates (H-1, H-2, H-3, and H-201), none of which appear to go anywhere other than
Hawaii. After giving a traditional hearty Hawaiian greeting "Aloha!", Steve quoted
a certain Vice-President: "Hawaii is a unique state. It is a small state. It is a state
that is by itself. It is a - it is different than the other 49 states. Well, all states are
different, but it's got a particularly unique situation."
Steve stressed that the important part of the quote was that Hawaii is all by itself, with
no bordering states. "Come on!" Steve exclaimed. "Even school kids know this
stuff! Dan does too! So why do we call them interstates and not state highways?" He
commented "I could understand if there was like a ferry to the continental U.S. That
would be a damn long boat ride!" Steve just shrugged and wandered off to the beach to
do some surfing.
The Number One Paper has extensively researched the rationale behind the nomenclature of the
Hawaiian interstates. It turns out that federal funds being used to build a highway determine
if it is labelled as an interstate. Still undetermined is whether the Alaskan interstates
mean that Canada is the 51st state of the U.S.A. Sure the interstates in Alaska stop before
the border but a little extension would solidify the relationship between Canada and the U.S.A.
