Mae hong son
After a two day whitewater rafting trip on the Ping river with some international High School students from Singapore (where I learned both why helmets are worn in the raft & how NOT to flip over a kayak) we started back on the road to Maehongson again.  We passed through a lot of small hilltribe villages (the Hmong, the Lisu, the Karian) and some really beautiful countryside too.  The weather was gorgeous the whole time and I got to try a lot of new foods and more than a few new drinks too...(haha).
A few times there was no bridge across...but that is why we had a 4X4 in the first place.  That is my vehicle in the picture...while Lak drove and Poy stayed inside I walked across the narrow footbridge (in the background) and came around to watch the vehicle cross.
Wat Chong Klang by the river in Maehongson.  Unlike the wats in Chiang Mai these are Burmese style wats.  There are some nice paintings of the life of the Buddha at the adjoining monastery.  (Also Burmese style)
A closer view of Wat Chong Klang.
The last night in Maehongson we ran into the High School kids (from the whitewater rafring) again...and the next day I left on a 20 minute flight for Chiang Mai.  Lak & Poy drove the vehicle back and it took them almost 7 hours.  I met up with Lak that last night (Poy let him borrow his car) and he showed me the night life of Chiang Mai before I left for Phuket the next morning...
