Coaches Profile

Bob DeVries

NMHU Cross Country Head Coach

DeVries enters his eighth season as head coach of the NMHU cross country program with high expectations and cautious optimism.  A onetime Highlands runner under then-coach Ron Maestas, DeVries has been a student of the sport throughout his career, scientifically dissecting everything from training to nutrition to psychological aspects.  And he's been successful, having led the Cowboys to consecutive NCAA Division II National Championship appearances in 1998 and '99, and having guided both men and women to regional and national rankings.
DeVries is married to the former Liz Gutierrez, who starred in volleyball for NMHU, and they have one daughter, Alexis.

Joe Quintana

Quintana has been DeVries' assistant for most of his tenure as coach and his comrade for years.  Quintana, known across the RMAC simply as "Coach Joe," serves the teams in a number of roles, from driver to massage therapist.  He is married to the former Wendy Farrell.

Chuck Arnold

Arnold raced for the Cowboys as recently as '98 and has assisted DeVries since then.  Arnold runs morning practice sessions and helps to pace both teams.
