V THE STRUCTURE OF MATTER
a. ATOMS
Students will conclude that substances can generally be subdivided into smaller units. They will consider how the properties of objects may differ from the properties of the materials of which they are made
- 1 use models (interlocking building blocks) to assemble and disassemble objects made up of smaller units
- 2 infer that small particles can be used to form larger pieces of matter
- 3. identify some common objects which are made up of smaller units
- 4 discover that objects can be arranged to conserve space
- 5 recognize that some physical changes are irreversible (eg., that some objects, when they are broken into smaller units cannot be reassembled)
