Are you as sick as I am of the phrase "this is a natural occurance"? :-) But it is! This is developed through reading together, especially reading notes and letters from people they know. Encourage note writing back and forth between you and your child, even if some of the notes have to take the form of pictures. Encourge her to write notes or letters to others for each of the reasons listed above. Keep a sample of each one. If your child is not comfortable writing it on her own have her dictate it to you and you write it. You could get her to copy it afterwards as practice for printing. It doesn't have to be long and complicate - just a sentence or two that expresses what she wants to say.
