Jonathan Knight page

The oldest of the New Kids has become the most reclusive member. Suffering from an anxiety and panic disorder, he no longer felt that he could continue performing and quit the group in 1993. In a rare public appearance in 2001 on the Oprah Winfrey Show with his brother, Jordan, Jon revealed that he suffers from panic attacks and had done so for many years. During the taping, he had to be comforted by Winfrey. Since then, Knight has retired to his farm in Massachusetts. Today, Jonathan Knight works as a real estate developer.

Jonathan Knight ultimately found refuge in rural Essex, Mass., on a 20-acre estate that includes a 14-bedroom house and a stable. (while his brother Jordan has since relocated to Milton, Mass.) In 1996 Jon launched his career as a real estate developer (orking to buy, sell and renovate houses and condos) and found professional independence. Jim Cullity, 34, one of Knight's two partners in a Boston real estate firm says: "Sometimes when we're at a closing the lawyer or client will realize who he is. They'll ask for his autograph or posters, and Jon will always do it.". His own property in Massachusetts was for sale for a reported asking price of $3,200,000 (USD).

In recent months Knight has also been collaborating with architects to design houses. It is an interest he developed growing up in Dorchester, Mass., the son of Marlene, 60, a former social worker, and Allan, 63, a Episcopal priest (the two divorced in 1984). Jon says: "I was always doodling house sketches".

In the years since, Knight has remained resolutely out of limelight, but sometimes he joined his brother who was touring with his latest album:
