| Hiking in the French Jura: For those who like to enjoy the splendid nature, "Le Niocraux" is a very good place to stay. You stay with full board in a comfortable "g�te" with a delicious kitchen. The direct surroundings are very picturesque and an oasis of calm and space. Nearby is the "Lac de Vouglans", a lake from 35 km length whit its winding form and its beaches. The height in the "Petite montagne" varies from 350m-750m. Common to all the walks are the beautiful foliage woods altered with beautiful views on delightful rocky parts. Each walk has some climbs and descents, but for anybody with a little experience easy to follow. most walks start and end at the house. Sometimes there is a transfer from or to the house. We take lunch with us or let us be spoiled by a prepared lunch. The walks vary from 12km - 20 km. On an individual basis, walks can be arranged all year through with topographic maps and good arrangements. The individual hiker has a choise of some 15 walks. For the group arrangements we have a weekly program. |
| Example weekly program: Arrival on Saterday afternoon. those wo want to, can follow a short walk near the house, nice waterfall, rocks view points etc...... Distance 6 km. Time 1.30 h. Sunday: Le Bief Enfer. Departure from the house. We pass meadows, woods, old watermills, a small medieval town and follow the trial back to the house. Distance 15 km. Time about 4.30h. Monday: The valley of the silence, Lac de Vouglans. Departure from the house. We follow a beautiful wooded valley that offers a special silence. We walk on past a small village to the "Lac de Vouglans". Beautiful views on the lake. At the border of the lake we will have lunch and there maybe a possibility to swim. Later on transport to the house. Distance 15 km. Time about 4 h or the whole day. Tuesday: The "Pierre Enon, three chapels" Transfer to the vilage of Legne, where we start near a big piece of rock that's laying in the madows since the ice age. We pass by 3 medieval chapels, two of them are hidden in the woods. Distance 17 km. Time about 5 h. Wednesday: Baume les Messieurs, Cascades d'H�risson. Transfer to the village of Cran�ot. At a splendid view over this impresoning gorge, starts our trip. Via a nice forest walk we descend to a beautiful 17 th. century abbey. Beside a small river we walk to the waterfall where we can visit a big cave. Later on we climb via a stairway up to our point of depart. We transfer several km by car to the cascades d'H�risson, where we eat lunch. Afterwhich we walk past thr waterfalls of H�risson. Distance 25 km. Time the whole day. Thursday: St. Christophe, Lac de Vouglans. We transfer to the beach and walk from there up through the woods where we have several beautiful views over the lake. The village of St. Christophe has a famous old church. Outside the village is a splendid "lavoir" (old washing place). We start to descend, passing a small but high waterfall, walking on the shore of the lake. Lunch will be served later on the beach. With good weather we might have time for a swim. Distance 10 km. Time about 3 h. or the whole day. Friday: Villeneuve, Sarrogna, Montjouvent. From the house we make a nice forest walk, pass meadows and traverse these 3 villages. Distance 15 km. Time about 4 h. Saturday after breakfast we say goodbye. |
