I am not a repairer of players. I just took a leap after a bit of research and decided that I could replace the player for what it would cost me to get it repaired so I had nothing to lose. I am not responsible for an damage or injury incurred by following the procedures below. Ok…you've been warned.

Nintaus N9100 Repair

This is a view of the 9100 with the cover off. One of the main things you notice is that unlike many players, this one doesn't contain a DVD-rom drive but a fairly basic and very open specialized player. This allows easy access for cleaning but doesn't seem to be as solid or protected as a DVD-rom. The main issues with skipping or not reading are dirty lenses, DVD not seating properly or obstructions in the lens slider mechanism. We are going to check and clean them.

You can see here the blue housing for the laser lens. The white cogs drive the movement of the lens so it can read the disk. You can just see the bar, the assembly move along. It also slides along the cut away on the right. I tried redistributing some of the lubricant which had accumulated at either end which seemed to help.

Cleaning the lens. Turn the white cogs carefully so you can access the lens assembly. Drip a bit of Isopropyl Alcohol on a cotton bud and carefully wipe the lens. If there are no obvious marks on the lens when you first look, don't bother cleaning it. You are just tempting fate. Just give it a bit of a blow to clear out any dust that might have accumulated.

The problem that I had was that my 2 1/2 year old son would often change disks and it would seem that a bit of crap had accumulated on the spindle which clamps the disk. I rotated the spindle and tried to remove any stuff that was there. After this treatment the player was working perfectly. Since then however the problem has returned. I've had another look and can't see anything so I'll try applying some lubricant to the rails the laser assembly runs on and see how that goes.
