Anorexia nervosa is defined as “a mental disorder characterized by weight loss leading to body weight being below 85% of ideal body weight, intense fear of weight gain, self-evaluation highly influenced by the perceived weight and shape, and absence of at least three consecutive menstrual cycles not related to other gynecological problems (American Psychiatric Association as cited in Chan & Ma, 2002, p. 50).
