General Information:

Established in 1974, the Bass Classics of Santa Clara Valley is one of the oldest active clubs in Northern California.  Located in Santa Clara, California,  the club is affiliated with the Black Bass Action Committee. Club membership is open to both boaters and non-boaters.

The club prides itself primarily as a teaching club and offers very low cost (~$20, with options, plus half of the fuel cost, camping and launch fees) monthly tournaments on local lakes.  These tournaments are a draw format where boaters are paired with non-boaters and fish on an individual basis, and are used as the primary teaching vehicle.  Boaters are paired with different non-boaters each month which allows everyone to learn and improve upon their angling skills. Partners learn from each other different techniques that, perhaps, each are not familiar with or about the bodies of water that they are fishing.

The club is an active participant with the Black Bass Action Committee (B.B.A.C.) on  black bass restoration projects and various political action endeavors to improve and protect the sport of bass fishing.  The Bass Classics are proud to have two long-time members (Don Reighley & George Hawley) serving as Directors for the B.B.A.C.

For further information about the club, email us at [email protected], or call Mike Espinola at (510) 353-9400.

Club Meetings

The Bass Classics of Santa Clara generally meet on the third Tuesday of every month. The club fishout is held on the first Saturday after the club meeting. Meetings start at 7:30PM and are held in the Ray Hellwig Plumbing building (1301 Laurelwood Rd) on the frontage road and down the street from the Levitz in Santa Clara. There are occasional exceptions to the meetings on the third Tuesdays. This usually means a public holiday is observed on or about the week of the fishout. If a public holiday falls on or near the fishout weekend (plus minus a few days), then the club meeting and the fishout is moved ahead one week. Check the tournament  schedule and the club meetings is on the preceding Tuesday.

Club meetings discuss old business; new business; a monthly report on Black Bass Action Committee (B.B.A.C.) work; awards for the Top 5 of the previous month's tournament along with a report by each of these members on what they did to make the Top 5 (we encourage members to discuss with everyone their personal tricks on how they caught their fish); a raffle and a draw for the next tournament.

Club meetings are open to the public for those that wish to join or just learn more about the club. So stop by and say hello ... hope to see you there.
