Blackie (Thomas Blackstone)

Born to Henry and Mary Blackstone, Thomas grew up in the crushing poverty of colonial London. Class distinction was rampant in the British Empire during the 1780's and the back streets and gutters of London were no exception. At an early age "Blackie" realized that his lot in life would not be improved with schooling or appointment, so he began the life many of his compatriots had already started on. Crime.

Starting with pickpocketing, the small boy worked his way up the 'ladder' to burglary and other assorted larcenies. As he grew, it was obvious that Thomas was going to be a large lad so it was natural that he would end up working for local loan sharks and other gang bosses as independent muscle. In his early twenties, Blackie began bareknuckle fighting for more money. As the months wore on, he became the one to beat on the back streets of London's illegal fight circuit.

Between matches, Thomas earned more cash by loaning out and collecting his own money for profit. Years passed and the English youth reached his early thirties. Because of his years of hard drinking and uncontrolable gambling, Blackie had squandered most of the money he had fought so hard for.

Then, in 1813, during a late night match by the docks, Thomas "Blackie" Blackstone met his match in hand to hand combat. The English bull found himself facing Alexander Therion. The fight was long and brutal. Both combatants were bloody and broken but Blackie knew he was going down. He was dying. Wheezing with a broken rib and punctured lung, Thomas rushed Alexander with the hope that he might end it and win before he died. With a roar, Blackie threw himself on the vampire. With the speed of the supernatural, Alexander stepped aside and in one quick motion, snapped the mortals neck.

Thomas Blackstone awoke in the best hotel in London. After the best meal of his life and a much needed bath, Alexander explained what he had helped Thomas become. Immortal...undying. He also told Blackie what he would need to do to survive The Game. The vampire king then offered him training and a place in his Clan. With such an offer, Blackie could hardly refuse.

Therion training had proved no more difficult for Tom than his childhood had been. He excelled in all areas of the violent new life that Alexander had introduced to him and during the following decades became one of Alexanders favored agents. Eventually, Thomas earned the trust of Alexander and became a prominent figure within the vampire clan. Although he has men officially under his command, Thomas rarely issues anything in the way of orders. He refuses to let others do for him and spends much of his time alone.

Because of his mortal life, Blackie is a sullen and untalkative person. He enjoys spending time with Alexander because the two will sit for hours without saying a word to each other and it bothers neither of them. They will drink themselves near comatose and utter but a few sentences.

Blackie's combat skills are extraordinary. He is lethal with his hands and can kill with a single blow. He has studied the martial arts mostly to counter their moves. His fighting style resembles the street fighting of his youth. For The Game, Thomas prefers a heavy English cavalry sabre which he keeps tucked under his knee length pea coat.

With the arrival of the new Clans, Blackie looks forward to the prospect of heated confrontations with them. Perhaps even a war.....
