An illegitimate and acknowledged child of King Louis
XIV, Eleanore's Mother was simply one of the many
women that the King kept company with to slake his
desires. As with most bastard children, Eleanore grew
up with a wealth of hatred and bitterness directed at
the wealthy man that was her Father. Her Mother she
hardly ever saw, as the beautiful Elaine Gaberel was
forever beneath the heel of the King. Eleanore was
kept in the hills of France, secluded for the most
part. Her appearance at court always served to
unnerve her Father, for her beauty was unmatched by
any of his other children, and many of his conquests.
Eleanore knew this, and used it to her advantage,
garnering the influence of many at court. One of
these people was Lady Marie Priscus. At first, a
young Eleanore saw only a titled lady in Marie
Priscus. Marie saw Eleanore as a headstrong and
intelligent young woman, a rarity in such times, and
was intrigued by the girl that everyone had nick-named
the Bastard Princess. Despite her station and
questionable parentage, Eleanore held her head higher
than most when in court. She was not so bold as to
openly acknowledge the King as her Father, but
everyone knew it to be true by the amount of tolerance
he showered upon the beauty.
She and Marie were fast friends, sharing a mutual respect for the King, if grudging on Eleanore's part, and an interest in more than just the latest fashions and fabrics. When unrest rose amongst the Kings bastards over a pot of money, Eleanore was one of the first to be targeted by her own half siblings. As favored, though illegitimate, they knew that Eleanore would be the one with the dowry, with titles and wealth, while they would be left to the wolves of society. They wouldn't dare openly threaten her, but instead used more covert and devious means to rid themselves of their half-sister and fellow bastard. With the help and cunning of her dearest friend and mentor, Eleanore engaged in a battle of wits with her siblings, coming out victorious, and all the richer for it. Seeing how the play between his bastard children amused the King, Eleanore felt any feeling she'd harbored for her Father vanish. He did not care about his dead or dishonored children. It was amusement to him. She was consumed with guilt at the harshness with which she had treated her sisters and brothers, all who were in the same state as she. Eleanore was wracked with soul-tearing anger towards her Father. Marie knew of this hatred instantly, and stopped young Eleanore when she would have went for her Father's throat with a bejeweled dagger he had given to her on her birthday. Marie cosseted her away to the countryside. There she explained to the hurt and grieving Eleanore that the only way to beat an enemy was to outlive him. Marie had motives of her own, and could not risk Eleanore possibly killing the King that she supported. She Embraced Eleanore and made her a Priscus Vampire. Eleanore would never see her Father again, and over the years saw to it that the fortune she procured, along with investments she would make would go to those bastards of the King. Eleanore values her Family above all else, and still, entering the new century does she continue to care for the descendants of her half-brothers and sisters that died so long ago in France. Marie Priscus, as ever a Mother to Eleanore as her own Mother had been, has been a constant source of peace for Eleanore, whose emotions could rage out of control at any moment. She has never had much restraint, she admits. She has come to learn a lot from her benefactor, Sire, and Queen, and remains loyal to her Kindred Family. |
